For pensioners on a low income, navigating retirement finances can be challenging. Fortunately, the UK government offers Pension Credit, a benefit designed to provide additional financial support to those who need it most. What is Pension Credit? 

Pension Credit is a means-tested benefit aimed at individuals over the State Pension age. It is divided into two parts and as of December 2024, those who meet the criteria will be eligible for: 

1. Guarantee Credit: This portion ensures that pensioners’ weekly income meets a minimum level. For single pensioners, this threshold is currently £218.15 per week, while for couples, it’s £332.95. If your income falls below these levels, Guarantee Credit will top it up to the specified amount. 

2. Savings Credit: This is an additional amount available to pensioners who have modest savings or pensions. It rewards those who reached the State Pension age before April 6, 2016, with up to £17.01 a week for singles and £19.04 for couples.
