Go Green will give care providers the ability to showcase all of their sustainability and green projects to increasingly environmentally concious care seekers.
Working closely with ESG professionals and care providers, Autumna’s Go Green action group has compiled a list of steps that care homes could be making, should be making and may need guidance in making, in order to improve sustainability across the sector.
This list covers areas such as building management, procurement and waste management, energy efficiencies, digital compliance and home projects - for example rewilding, home grown vegetables and composting and community projects.
“Go Green has been created to support care seekers in their decision making process and enable providers to demonstrate, directly to their potential clients, what environmentally sustainable measures they are taking.”
As part of the initial launch, Autumna is asking providers to pledge their commitment in areas that they’ve already undertaken or areas they will be improving over the next 6 months.
A founder member of the Go Green Action Group is Athena Care Homes’ Marketing Manager, James Eley.
“We’re immensely proud to have been a part of the Go Green initiative. It’s something that all care homes can take inspiration from and collectively, I’m confident we can make a real difference to our residents, care team and local community now and into the future.”
Athena Care Homes has been shaping its sustainability strategy for the past 18 months. They started their journey with a pledge to plant 5 trees for every resident who moved into their homes.
There are now over 7,700 trees in The Athena Forest!
On top of that, Athena Care Homes extensively reviewed their policies and practices around their homes to reduce their impact on the environment. For example, they swapped out cleaning chemicals for products that are gentler on the planet.
More recently, they have turned their attention to bigger projects. Athena have been tracking their energy usage to find efficiencies, investigating ways to make the most of their solar panels and locating community partnerships which will benefit their residents.
“One stat we’re really proud of, is that just one of our upgraded boilers will save enough energy each year to keep a smartphone charged for 250,000 years!"
Go Green has been built from the ground up to do two specific tasks.
A) To demonstrate the green initiatives of care providers to care seekers
B) To enable care providers to progress and improve their sustainability practices
