This is a type of purpose-built accommodation for older people who need a moderate amount of personal care.
All care homes differ on the facilities that are provided but typically a residential care home has staff that provide support with getting dressed, washing and bathing, administering medicine, laundry, cleaning and cooking meals.
Nursing home
A nursing home has qualified staff that provide round the clock assistance for the residents in their care.
A acre home with nursing may have facilities that accommodate for very specific or complex needs. Older people with serious physical disabilities, for example, might receive specialist support at a Nursing Home.
Care homes that specialise in dementia
Residential and nursing care homes may offer care for residents with dementia but not all.
A care home that specialises in dementia provides attentive support from qualified nurses with experience in caring for people with severe dementia.
They might specifically cater for the needs of older people with Alzheimer's disease and dementia including but not limited to:
frontotemporal dementia
mild cognitive impairment
posterior cortical atrophy
primary progressive aphasia
vascular dementia
Care homes with respite
A short stay in a care home provides support for older adults who may need recovery and respite.
Respite care can provide a well-needed break for individuals for many, complex reasons. For example, after surgery or illness, personal care that includes assistance with bathing, eating, exercising and medication administration can be a great relief.
Short respite stays can be found via our search portal by filtering for care homes with “daily respite care".

Helping you to find a care home
A sympathetic, helpful ear at a stressful time. That phone call helped us make progress in the hunt for somewhere for Dad without spending hours on the phone or searching online. So much easier to be presented with a list and know that initial contacts were being made whilst we could concentrate on Dad in hospital and his partner at home. Thank you!
Jill
You made the process of finding a care home suited to our needs very much easier. It is such a daunting task and the homes that have contacted me all met our criteria.
Jane
Autumna were very helpful on the phone and then sent me a fair list of care homes to choose from. I am now close to making a decision. Thank you for your guidance!
