Anne Hughes is Home Manager at Grosvenor Manor Care Centre.
I’ve worked as a nurse for over 40 years in a variety of roles I thoroughly enjoy working in care homes. As a nurse, you can build relationships with the people you’re caring for and their families in a way that’s just not possible in a hospital setting where people come and go. I love the fact that we’re making a big difference to people’s lives and we get to see the evidence of that. It’s a privilege to be working for an excellent provider in Grosvenor Manor Care Centre, New Care. I’m passionate about delivering high quality care to each resident and supporting the staff in their careers within the health care sector.

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant. Our Building and Facilities |
---|
Internally, the attention to detail is impressive. The high specification and décor of Grosvenor Manor have been carefully considered by an interior designer, creating stylish yet comfortable and practical spaces for residents to enjoy. Arranged over two floors, the facilities at Grosvenor Manor are exceptional, with each floor enjoying its own communal lounges and restaurants. All bedrooms boast en suite wet rooms, and there is also a spa assisted bathroom, hairdresser & nail bar. There are beautiful, mature gardens and outside seating areas at Grosvenor Manor along with extensive terrace areas to the first floor.
In line with our care philosophy at Grosvenor Manor, we have a “Magic” table or “Tovertafel” in the dementia community. There is significant literature on the positive effects on dementia of play. From our observations, the impact of the “Magic Table” is extremely positive for residents living with dementia. Residents and their relatives alike can play freely on the “Magic Table”. In addition, this is a particularly useful opportunity for involving children to experience positive play with their older relatives. New Care is one of a small group of providers who are leading the way in the UK, by purchasing the “Magic” table as part of our overarching strategy to provide opportunities for our residents living with dementia and their relatives to have fun together. |

Activities Are So Important |
---|
At New Care Homes we have dedicated activity staff who devise and deliver our activities and well-being programme. We work with our whole staff team so that everyone can participate in supporting our residents to have fun and enjoy life. We offer a range of activities that are based on our resident’s feedback. We have a calendar of events planned throughout the whole year. We have established some groups in all of our homes, which link to residents, own hobbies and interests. This currently includes a range of subjects from gardening clubs to bridge clubs. We are always keen to start up new groups, to make sure we are supporting all of our residents to have a full and enjoyable life. This can either be re-engaging with a previous hobby or interest, or even learning something quite new. The groups provide opportunities for residents, relatives and other to get together to enjoy a shared passion and have a good time together. In order to develop this aspect of the service, we have also invested in ‘OOMPH!’ well-being. Oomph! provides training to our entire staff team to deliver a 360 degree approach to wellbeing, demonstrating a positive impact at all times. The training and support packages enable our staff to deliver everyday mental stimulation, regular, fun physical activity and new experiences & connections for our residents. We have enabled all the members of our staff team to provide a set of complementary services to enhance the mental, physical and emotional wellbeing of our residents. In addition to our approach to activities, we also offer trips that are tailored to people’s individual needs. This includes a variety of venues including garden centres, museums, shopping malls, the seaside and distilleries etc. At Grosvenor Manor Care Centre, we have a Wellbeing team who offer a wellbeing programme 7 days a week. We also are partnered with OOMPH who support our wider team. Sample programme to follow. |
