Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Our Building and Facilities

The home is split into four approximately equal wings – Hardy, Camden, Sackville and Harris. This structure allows for individual care and attention to be given in small groups. There are separate lounges and dining rooms in each wing, and each has their own kitchenette. Food is delivered from the central kitchen and served in each wing.

The Camden and Hardy wings share dining facilities, and two new quiet lounges have been created for families and residents. Residents are free to choose where to sit, but are also encouraged to socialize and take part in the many activities.

This wing concept makes the home feel smaller than it is – the residents receive can choose to stay in their wing, or can move to other wings to be with friends and participate in different activities. Many residents choose to eat their meals in different wings – the walk between wings is good exercise!

There are a number of communal bathrooms (including three Parker baths and one walk in shower) and toilets. All rooms have their own commodes for more personal toileting.

Hartley House has extensive grounds, accessible from all the wings. There is a wheel chair accessible path around most of the home, a facility which is well used by residents, staff and visitors. There are a number of smaller courtyard areas for sitting and enjoying the outdoors, and there are garden areas for use by the residents.

Activities Are So Important

The home focusses on the wellbeing of all residents. The dedicated wellbeing coordinator is assisted by ad hoc groups and outside activities that supplement the in-house programs. As far as possible, care staff are encouraged to be involved in wellbeing issues. This can involve one-to-one chats, life history discussions, newspaper readings etc. Residents appreciate the attention of care staff who know the resident well.

Outside activities include singers and entertainers, pat-dog therapy, school choirs, church choirs and services, and charity events such as cup-cake making. We strive to provide rounded and varied options that meet each residents' needs.
