Meet The Manager

Joanne Thackwell is Home Manager at Hazelmere House Care Home.

My career in the care sector dates back more than twenty years. It started in the NHS before my passion for occupational health drew me into CIPD in management, and eventually to a role with Bupa clinics.

Overall, I've been with Bupa for 15 years, and it was my most recent experience in managerial positions that made me so excited when I heard of the general manager position at Hazelmere House. I felt like I'd achieved everything I could with the clinics, and this opportunity just felt right.

My role with Hazelmere blends all the different skills I've learned in my career to date, from compliance to care and empathy. Every day is different though, and I ultimately have overall responsibility for everything; from the health and safety of the team to the happiness and well-being of the people that live here.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Activities Are So Important

There’s no typical day at Hazelmere House, but we arrange plenty to do, both here at the home as well as out and about.

Rediscover old classics or whole new ones.  With a regularly visiting mobile library, residents will always have new books to read.

Make your own contribution to our stunning garden. Residents can make an area of the garden their very own and we encourage them to do so.

Outings to theatres, parks and local garden centres. There is plenty to do in the local area and we’re always taking residents out to visit new and exciting locations.
