A Vibrant Care Home in Newcastle-under-Lyme

Hempstalls Hall is the finest of Newcastle Under Lyme care homes and is situated in a quiet suburb of Newcastle-under-Lyme, attracting self-funded residents from neighbouring towns such as Stoke-on-Trent and the rest of North Staffordshire. A spirit of companionship runs throughout our retirement home — it’s the first thing you notice when you enter our reception. We warmly welcome couples or companions to continue their care journey together in our care home. But as well as this, we concentrate on approaching each resident in a holistic way, that is nourishing mind, body and soul, and our high-calibre staff are well qualified to do this.

Our lounges are light and open with large windows that look out over our garden and the locality. The enclosed rear garden is a perfect spot for capturing the sun and many residents enjoy sitting out on the benches when it’s warm.

Bedrooms are generously sized, and all have walk-in showers and flat-screen TVs. We always encourage residents to personalise their rooms as much as possible with their personal belongings. Having familiar items around makes a new environment feel less strange, and more of a ‘home from home’. Some of our rooms have patio doors, which offer our residents a tranquil place to enjoy a cup of tea and read a book.

We welcome you to visit us and see for yourselves why we were also rated as ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission.

Respite Care Yes

Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe
We are confident that our care homes are now some of the very safest places to live and work.

All of our staff have been trained in additional and heightened cleansing protocols and hygiene regimes, and these are being supported by a leading sanitisation system as part of our comprehensive infection controls. Testing regimes will continue for staff, residents and visitors.

We have re-aligned the resident in-house services to meet social distance guidance from the Government, for areas such as lounges and dining rooms, and for visiting entertainers and hair dressers; we are working hard to restore these services within the ‘new normal’ circumstances as soon as we can, when lockdown rules allow.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Infection Control Training Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections.
safe-tick Sterilisation & Disinfection Devices We are using sterilisation and/or disinfection devices within our care setting.
safe-tick Virus Testing We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting.
Safe Visiting Space

Avery Healthcare has invested in outdoor garden ‘visitor pods’

The pods, are a garden room specifically designed to facilitate safe face-to-face contact with relatives and visitors. Each pod contains a floor to ceiling partition screen and a hands-free intercom so that communication is clear and safe for use. They are fitted with internal electrics and two, low-surface temperature electric panel heaters – suitable for these winter months.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Activities Are So Important

At Hempstalls Hall Care Home we know how important it is for our residents to have an active and stimulating lifestyle. Our dedicated activities team arrange and plan all the daily events, guided by what the residents would like. There’s an accent on music. For instance:

  • Music hall shows with costumes
  • Vera Lynn and Bob Hope songs
  • Choir practice
  • Serenades from singers

Take a look at our Facebook pages and see for yourself.

Non-dementia residents are free to come and go as they please, even if it is just a walk around the enclosed garden or to pop to the shops for a paper. We also arrange excursions to the local cinema and theatre for a bit of culture, as well as pub lunches and church services. Our qualified staff are very good at pampering sessions in our beauty parlour and hair salon, and they’re always up for a good old chat at the same time.

For the green fingered, there is a gardening club which is very involved in the planning and planting of the garden and raised beds. If not gardening, then you might find a game of badminton going on, or a spot of cheerleading, waving those pompoms. And if not playing games, then indulging in some home-made ice cream, or a nice cup of tea and a cake.

Hempstalls Hall Care Home is also active in the local community and the residents like to play their part by raising money for local charities and schools.
