Lea Wintle is General Manager at Abbotswood Court.
I have been working in care for 22 years and have held a range of positions from Support Worker to Registered Manager. I have worked in both learning disabilities and elderly care, including dementia care and palliative care. Before joining Abbotswood, I was Deputy Manager in a care home in Northampton caring for the elderly for just over five years.
Before that, I worked with adults with learning disabilities and complex needs as Senior Support Worker, and worked my way up to become Registered Manager, a post I held for just over five years. I love the satisfaction of making a positive difference, however great or small, in the life of someone less able than I am, whatever stage of life they have reached.
I have been lucky enough to receive several awards. In 2005, I was the runner-up in the National Registered Managers category of the National Care Awards and a Local Hero Award for Outstanding Achievement in Care run by the Salisbury Journal and Spire FM.
Established in October 2015, Abbotswood Court is a purpose-built care home that offers 63 spacious en-suite rooms and a wide range of recreational facilities, coupled with expert 24-hour care for elderly people. We have an excellent reputation in and around Romsey and we gain fantastic reviews. We are all about lifestyle! there's so much to enjoy here and we have great fun. We are part of the Cinnamon Care Collection, an exclusive group of luxury care homes and retirement villages throughout the country, dedicated to great design and outstanding care.
Abbotswood Court is set in its own beautifully landscaped gardens, within a pretty conservation area on the edge of the historic market town of Romsey in Hampshire. Romsey combines historic charm with modern convenience; its medieval streets lined with Tudor buildings, which cluster around the town’s magnificent Norman Abbey, also offer a variety of shops, markets and coffee shops. Southampton and Winchester are both close by.
Our aim is to help older people live happier, healthier, more fulfilled lives and give peace of mind to their families who entrust us with their care. We are determined to be the difference in senior care.
Our rooms are around £1700 per week and are fully inclusive of 24 hour care, all food and drink, housekeeping activities and even day trips. We welcome relaxed and informal tours of the home.

Activities Are So Important |
---|
Life is always fun at Abbotswood Court. Residents can join in with a host of activities from ‘ZING!’ activity sessions and music events to Bridge Club and sing-alongs. In addition, we often hold themed events to which friends and family are invited: murder-mystery dinners, parties, birthday celebrations and more. Having our own transport opens up opportunities for days out to the many local attractions in and around Romsey. Whether it’s for a trip to Romsey’s Plaza Theatre, a stroll around Hillier Arboretum, or a visit to Hedge End Shopping Centre or Carlos Ice Cream Parlour, every single outing – spontaneous or planned – is arranged to keep our residents feeling stimulated, connected and happy. There are always friendly new faces at Abbotswood Court – children from the local nursery, newborn great-grandchildren, or pop-ins from Vasco, the much-loved local dog. We have close links with our local community as well. Whether it’s the visiting bell ringers, our family get-togethers every Sunday lunchtime, one of our regular Forget Me Not Cafés, or our residents fundraising for the Alzheimer’s’ Society and Dementia UK, it all adds to our varied and vibrant home ilfe. |
