Sam Stone is Registered Manager at Maple Leaf House.
I’ve been a nursing home manager for over 10 years, working in care for much longer. I have a passion caring for those who live with dementia and ensuring they have the best quality of life possible. Working with homes that have had their own set of challenges is my drive, working hard to turn around the ethos, quality and safety of homes.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications |

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant. Our Building and Facilities |
---|
Maple Leaf House was built using a ground-breaking design based on contemporary research in how best to assist people with dementia. The home is decorated in warm pastel shades with wander-loop corridors and continuous colours to prevent confusion. The doors to bathrooms and toilets have signs so that the different facilities can be recognised and used. Communal areas are easily viewable in order to encourage entry and are designed to be reminiscent of domestic homes, helping to create a sense of familiarity and contentment. Maple Leaf is also one of the homes in which MHA has developed a sensory garden. Raised flower beds, plants and water features give opportunities to help create a sense of calm and to stimulate reminiscence through scents, touch and vision. We are committed to providing alternative therapies such as reflexology and music therapy, which does much to help promote the well-being of each individual, while our Chaplain offers pastoral support to all at Maple Leaf House, whatever their beliefs. |
