Meet The Manager

Ian Robertson is Home Manager at Merlin Court Care Home.

Our Marlborough care home is one of the friendliest and welcoming in the region. At our home, we warmly welcome couples or companions who want to continue their care journey together. Why not pop down to meet the Home Manager and the wider team for a cup of tea in one of our peaceful visiting rooms or garden area? Get a taste of Merlin Court by visiting us and we’ll be happy to talk you through the different facilities in the home and discuss your specific care needs.

Luxury Location of Our Marlborough Care Home

Merlin Court offers residential, respite and dementia care in Marlborough, just a five-minute walk from the centre of one of Wiltshire’s most historic market towns. It adjoins Marlborough Common and is only a two-minute drive from the A346 Swindon Road.

Many of the staff at our home are loyal, long-standing employees, which is reflected in the consistency of the residential and dementia care provided. Our motivation is our residents’ well-being, celebrating their lives and enabling them to live life to the full.

Our Marlborough care home is truly splendid and was recently refurbished. We enjoy a quiet location next to Marlborough Common and are surrounded by a lovely, landscaped garden. The entrance opens onto a spacious galleried reception and modern café area. The latest addition to Merlin Court is our cinema room, which is extremely popular with our residents.

All of the bedrooms at Merlin Court have en-suite, walk-in shower rooms, are very spacious, have wall-mounted TVs and plenty of room for photos and mementos.

The team of dedicated carers and support staff work hard to ensure that everyone settles quickly into home life and they encourage residents to keeps their brains and their bodies active by taking part in the variety of activities offered. Our Marlborough care home is supported by an array of local groups, including students from the nearby Marlborough College, who enjoy a weekly visit. There’s nothing like mixing up the generations to provoke conversation!

To see what we get up to you, keep an eye on our regularly updated Facebook page, where we like to post updates on the activities and goings on in the home. If you’d like to have a chat with our Home Manager, we will be happy to answer your questions or arrange for you to visit our lovely Marlborough care home.

Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

Avery Healthcare has always made the health and safety of our residents and staff a priority, and the Covid-19 pandemic has required us to raise our exacting standards to even higher levels. That is why we are taking the innovative step to introduce a cleaning system into our care homes that is already proven to kill 99.9% of viruses, including MRSA, e-Coli, norovirus and the SARS virus (which is similar to Cov-2, which causes Covid-19).

Avery is now leading in the care sector with the testing of an established cleaning system that refreshes and sanitises a bedroom in less than an hour, with a larger capacity variant addressing communal areas. Keeping both areas clean in this way will be an effective method in how Avery care homes manage their environments, to keep them as virus and bacteria-free as possible.

All Avery homes are now equipped with Topaz Machines ready for when we can allow visiting into the homes. The system hosts two units, one larger which dispenses hand sanitiser to visitors upon arrival and exit; it also provides an important messaging display screen to advise visitors of the latest news, and the other, a smaller screen, which operates as a thermal checker so that we can support temperature checks of those entering the building. Yet another fantastic piece of technology that provides relatives with safer, more efficient visits with their loved ones.

As we’ve learned during this pandemic, we are all in this together. We want our residents, staff, and their respective families to know that when they are in an Avery care home, that it is one of the safest and cleanest places to be. We also want relatives to be confident that their loved ones are being cared for in the best possible way, and for anyone in the position of placing a loved one in to care, to have the peace of mind that an Avery home will be a clean and safe haven.

Activities Are So Important

Our residential home has established strong ties with local Wiltshire schools and associations who play a valuable role in ensuring residents remain part of the wider community. Students and nursery children come every week to read and play board games with the residents.

Activities are scheduled every day of the week by a team of dedicated Activity Co-ordinators who arrange for entertainers and local charities to come in. You can choose to do as much or as little as you like, and if there is something that particularly interests you we will do our best to support it. Whether it’s music, crafting, dancing, walking or just trips to a local Marlborough pub, there isn’t much we don’t do! See for yourself:

  • Cookery and Art courses
  • Reading and Scrabble games
  • Keep Fit
  • Swimming for slimming
  • Maths tests (What!)
  • Playing boules
  • Holy Communion every Sunday
  • Songs of Praise services for all denominations

We have a dedicated dementia Lounge where reminiscence sessions are popular, as are the singalongs and shared moments of reflection. We are no strangers to the internet and use it as memory resource, and also for Skyping, which along with our Facebook pages are excellent means for keeping lines of communication going. Wi-Fi is available throughout the home and free for residents and guests alike. When not on our screens, or engaged in activities inside or in the garden, we can found going out on trips to the lovely Wiltshire countryside in our minibus.
