Meet The Manager

Nicola is Registered Manager at Oaklands Rest Home.

Nicola joined Oaklands in 2014 as our Registered Manager and has become a familiar face for many in the Marchwood community, thanks to her ongoing efforts to ensure a strong relationship between the home and the local residents.

Nicola has an extensive background in the care sector, having started out in the industry at just 17 years old. Before moving to the New Forest with her family, Nicola also achieved a BSc degree in Welfare Studies from Newport University while working as a Manager at a care home in Wales.

Outside of work, Nicola can often be found taking part in charity work and raising awareness for dementia causes, having lost her own father to the illness. Nicola is also hugely family-orientated and loves listening to music and taking her dog, Bella, on long walks.

Nicola

We’re a family-run, dementia registered rest home, set in a beautiful Victorian property on the edge of the New Forest. We’re equipped to deal with the many complex needs that arise from having Dementia.

Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

You can rest assured that the Oaklands’ team are all committed to providing an outstanding level of care, whilst keeping our residents, visitors and staff as safe as possible. And as you would expect, we continue to take every reasonable precaution and follow the daily advice provided by the government.

To achieve this, we have implemented a series of new measures, which are outlined below.

  • The team are now tested twice a week
  • Anyone who enters Oaklands Rest Home will be asked to answer our screening questions before entry is permitted.
  • The team at Oaklands have all had specific training on outbreak management and drills have been taking place to ensure we are prepared should an outbreak occur.
  • We know how important it is for residents and their loved ones to have face to face contact, so we have introduced a variety of different visits. For more information, please see our infographic below.
  • The fun hasn’t stopped at Oaklands. Our in-house activities team have been working hard to ensure the care home remains as comfortable and sociable as possible for residents.
  • We send a monthly newsletter to help residents’ families stay updated and connected with what’s going on in the home.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Activities Are So Important

It’s not just about the elderly care we provide, it’s also about making sure we help our residents live their life to the full. That’s why our team work hard to create an imaginative calendar of activities, including:

  • Person-centred activities based on residents’ hobbies & interests we learn about during our reminiscing sessions and through relatives
  • ‘Oaklands Air’ – our fun & engaging armchair travel experience
  • Arts & crafts and baking sessions
  • Gardening and outdoor walks
  • Specially adapted exercise classes
  • Lively sing-a-longs
  • Visiting musicians and singers
  • Interactive technology with puzzles and sensory games

We also love a themed day or two! From a Texan barn dance to summer carnivals, our residents enjoy decorating the home and celebrating together!

Of course, where’re not always on the go here at Oaklands. We all need quiet moments from time to time, which is why we make sure there are cosy corners for residents to sit back and relax with a paper or enjoy a hand massage and pampering.
