Meet The Manager

Charlotte Goodfellow is Home Manager at Park Avenue Care Home.

Park Avenue Care Home has 51 beds and supports people living with dementia and other complex needs.

Many residents are living with complex care needs however every resident is encouraged to be as active and involved in life in the home as they can be. Through PARC, the Park Avenue Resident’s Committee, everyone is invited to play an active role in life at the home and out in the community, where Park Avenue is involved with local school, churches and neighbourhood groups.

The aim is to support a lifestyle chosen by the resident, whilst ensuring they receive quality care within a secure environment.

It is only natural for all of us to want the very best for those we love as they get older. Life at home can become increasingly more challenging and difficult to manage as the years pass, particularly if someone is trying to cope with Dementia. The decision to look at nursing care can be extremely hard to make and for many, a deeply emotional one. However, should you decide this is the right choice to make for your relative or friend, we will be there to help you every step of the way. The friendly faces, homely facilities and comfortable, modern accommodation at Park Avenue Care Home will make the transition much easier. We provide respite, nursing and palliative care for older people, including those with Dementia. Our professional and experienced team is committed to ensuring that the people who use our services live as independently as possible and continue to live their life to the full. Here at Park Avenue Care Home, we provide a personal service that respects and values individuals.

Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

We are working within the government guidelines to help protect our staff and clients.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Infection Control Training Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections.
safe-tick Virus Testing We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting.
Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Our Building and Facilities

The home is large and stylish with plenty of communal and quiet spaces. It also has its own hair salon and residents have access to a gym too! An Edwardian tearoom is equipped with vintage china, cake stands and silver teapots which supports reminiscence and is a popular meeting place for residents and families – a favourite spot for afternoon tea, birthday parties, and anniversaries.

Our aim is to ensure the comfort and well-being of a person living at Park Avenue, and our facilities include:-

  • Lounge and dining room on each floor.
  • Choice and variety of meals prepared on the premises.
  • Vintage tea room
  • Hairdressing “salon style room”.
  • Visiting dentist
  • Optician
  • Podiatry
  • Private GP or own GP if desired.
  • Wheel chair accessible building with lift.
  • Visiting Physiotherapist and access to purpose built gym in sister home.
  • Full daily laundry service.
  • Call bells in each room.
  • Good accessibility to nearby Glades shopping centre and Grove Park train station. Park Avenue is opposite the 126, 261 and 336 bus stop.

To assist individuals living with Dementia, we have included a number of ‘pockets of opportunity’ around the home – small details designed to aid memory, provide sensory stimulation and promote conversation and interaction amongst people. We also successfully implement the SonasTM Programme which involves cognitive, sensory and social stimulation for participants who have significant communication impairment, primarily as a result of Dementia.

Activities Are So Important

Days at Park Avenue are very social. The “Resident of the Day” programme happens once a month, where a selected resident gets to choose how they wish to spend their day, ending with a meal of their choice – favourites include fish and chips and the Chinese take-away.

The purpose of the scheme is to check that all of the services that the residents receive are continuing to meet their needs. It provides an opportunity for the whole team to sit down and focus on the individual – looking at what is working and what may need to be changed. A full review of the care plan is a fundamental part of this process.

The physical and emotional wellbeing of residents at Park Avenue is at the core what we do. The home receives regular visits from a physiotherapist who provides advice and therapy to enable residents to be as independent as possible. Trips to the purpose-built Physiotherapy Gym in Sydenham, shared with our sister homes in the area, are designed to improve mobility and encourage residents to regain their independence, self-confidence and self-esteem.

Park Avenue is an extraordinary home. The beautiful gardens host an array of wildlife, whether summer days or autumn nights, the beautiful outdoor space paints the perfect picture of life in the home. It is a place of tranquillity and a place where people can get involved in gardening activities or simply relax and enjoy the seasons.

Many residents at Park Avenue are living with dementia so maintaining their health and wellbeing is always the home's top priority.

The home has a well-established reputation for its Namaste Programme. Developed in the United States, these sensory stimulation techniques give those living with dementia a deep sense of positive wellbeing and relaxation.

The journey with dementia doesn’t simply affect the person living with the condition. Dementia affects a resident’s family and those closest to them and can cause confusion and unrest. That is why Park Avenue Care Home offers relative support groups and extends the hand of friendship to all of those touched by the condition. The home aims to help everyone involved in their loved one's care, to understand the condition and offer advice/support.

Our regular weekly programmes include:-
