Meet The Manager

Erika Smith is Home Manager at Pemberley House Care Home.

Luxury Care Home in Basingstoke

Pemberley House offers compassionate, round-the-clock care to all residents. Compassion is something that is of the utmost importance throughout our Basingstoke care homes, as is apparent in the care we provide. At our home, we warmly welcome couples or companions who want to continue their care journey together.

Adjusting to life in a new and unfamiliar setting can feel daunting, which is why we strive to keep communication as open as possible – with residents, staff, friends, and family – allowing residents to settle quickly into our Hampshire care home. Residents will happily admit that Pemberley House provides a supportive and friendly atmosphere to all that live here and visit.

Residents are encouraged to add personal effects to their bedroom space, giving Pemberley House a feeling of home-from-home. All bedrooms are equipped, as standard, with en-suite wet rooms, a TV, and telephone points.

Each floor of our Basingstoke care home has its own small-scale lounge and dining room. The ground floor café is also a popular meeting area for those who enjoy catching up over a cup of coffee and a slice of delicious cake.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

Avery Healthcare has always made the health and safety of our residents and staff a priority, and the Covid-19 pandemic has required us to raise our exacting standards to even higher levels. That is why we are taking the innovative step to introduce a cleaning system into our care homes that is already proven to kill 99.9% of viruses, including MRSA, e-Coli, norovirus and the SARS virus (which is similar to Cov-2, which causes Covid-19).

Avery is now leading in the care sector with the testing of an established cleaning system that refreshes and sanitises a bedroom in less than an hour, with a larger capacity variant addressing communal areas. Keeping both areas clean in this way will be an effective method in how Avery care homes manage their environments, to keep them as virus and bacteria-free as possible.

All Avery homes are now equipped with Topaz Machines ready for when we can allow visiting into the homes. The system hosts two units, one larger which dispenses hand sanitiser to visitors upon arrival and exit; it also provides an important messaging display screen to advise visitors of the latest news, and the other, a smaller screen, which operates as a thermal checker so that we can support temperature checks of those entering the building. Yet another fantastic piece of technology that provides relatives with safer, more efficient visits with their loved ones.

As we’ve learned during this pandemic, we are all in this together. We want our residents, staff, and their respective families to know that when they are in an Avery care home, that it is one of the safest and cleanest places to be. We also want relatives to be confident that their loved ones are being cared for in the best possible way, and for anyone in the position of placing a loved one in to care, to have the peace of mind that an Avery home will be a clean and safe haven.

Avery Healthcare has invested in outdoor garden ‘visitor pods’

The pods, are a garden room specifically designed to facilitate safe face-to-face contact with relatives and visitors. Each pod contains a floor to ceiling partition screen and a hands-free intercom so that communication is clear and safe for use. They are fitted with internal electrics and two, low-surface temperature electric panel heaters – suitable for these winter months.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Activities Are So Important

Residents enjoy armchair exercises, the arts and crafts club, sewing, growing herbs and vegetables in the raised beds and watching all the birds on the bird feeders. The garden is a sun trap and a lovely place for a morning coffee or afternoon tea and having a good old chinwag. We have our own minibus which finds its way to the local Basingstoke and Hampshire sites of interest, the shops or the local pub for lunch. We work up an appetite which serves us well when meal times come around.
