Meet The Manager

Cathy Charley is Home Manager at Priory Court Care Home.

Priory Court Care Home

The historic town of Stamford has been voted one of the best places to live in the UK and we think our Priory Court Care Home is pretty good too. It’s situated on Priory Road, in a quiet residential area of the town and has been sympathetically built to fit in with the historic local architecture and overlooks the ruins of St Leonard’s Priory. The A1 is only a minute’s drive away and there are good public transport links to Peterborough and beyond for visiting residents here.

We cater for those with residential and dementia care needs and have en-suite rooms on the ground floor for residential care. We warmly welcome couples or companions to continue their care journey together in our care home. All our bedrooms are of a good size, but we also have some double rooms for couples. As we focus on giving the finest dementia care in Lincolnshire, our Stamford care home boasts superb dementia services to ensure our residents have everything they need to keep their minds stimulated and bodies active.

All our care is resident-focused, and we encourage family involvement. Whether it’s dropping into our cafe or sitting in the garden with a loved one or volunteering in some respect, you’re always welcome. To see what we get up to you might want to view our dedicated Facebook page which is kept updated with all the activities and goings-on in the home.

Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

Avery Healthcare has always made the health and safety of our residents and staff a priority, and the Covid-19 pandemic has required us to raise our exacting standards to even higher levels. That is why we are taking the innovative step to introduce a cleaning system into our care homes that is already proven to kill 99.9% of viruses, including MRSA, e-Coli, norovirus and the SARS virus (which is similar to Cov-2, which causes Covid-19).

Avery is now leading in the care sector with the testing of an established cleaning system that refreshes and sanitises a bedroom in less than an hour, with a larger capacity variant addressing communal areas. Keeping both areas clean in this way will be an effective method in how Avery care homes manage their environments, to keep them as virus and bacteria-free as possible.

All Avery homes are now equipped with Topaz Machines ready for when we can allow visiting into the homes. The system hosts two units, one larger which dispenses hand sanitiser to visitors upon arrival and exit; it also provides an important messaging display screen to advise visitors of the latest news, and the other, a smaller screen, which operates as a thermal checker so that we can support temperature checks of those entering the building. Yet another fantastic piece of technology that provides relatives with safer, more efficient visits with their loved ones.

As we’ve learned during this pandemic, we are all in this together. We want our residents, staff, and their respective families to know that when they are in an Avery care home, that it is one of the safest and cleanest places to be. We also want relatives to be confident that their loved ones are being cared for in the best possible way, and for anyone in the position of placing a loved one in to care, to have the peace of mind that an Avery home will be a clean and safe haven.

In another step by Avery Healthcare to help relative visiting during the pandemic, the Group has invested in more outdoor garden ‘visitor pods’ to be installed at all Avery Healthcare homes.

The pods, installed by Wild Environments, are a garden room specifically designed to facilitate safe face-to-face contact with relatives and visitors. Each pod contains a floor to ceiling partition screen and a hands-free intercom so that communication is clear and safe for use. They are fitted with internal electrics and two, low-surface temperature electric panel heaters – suitable for these winter months.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Activities Are So Important

Glancing at our Facebook pages, you might be excused for thinking that life is one long round of parties – judging by the glasses of sherry, Buck’s Fizz and champagne that are being raised! True, we like to celebrate when a celebration’s due, and we take our fun seriously. But we treat everyone with the utmost care and thoughtfulness while making sure they enjoy life to the full and realise their full potential. Life doesn’t stop just because you’ve moved out of your own home.

In the 15 years since it opened Priory Court Care Home in Lincolnshire has established strong ties with local community. We have an especially warm relationship with the Malcolm Sargent Primary School, where residents are always sure of a friendly welcome when they come for school plays and concerts.

Community involvement works both ways as sometimes the community comes to us: the volunteer bereavement group, Cruse for example, holds its regular monthly meetings in our building. Our residents regularly hold meetings themselves to decide which excursions they want to go on, what activities they want to do and which charities they want to support. As we have our own minibus we can easily get out and about.
