Kerry Howell is Home Manager at Alexandra Nursing Home.
As Home Manager of the Alexandra Care Home with Nursing, it is Kerry’s job to oversee the running of the home and her team. Ensuring the home adheres to the KLOEs set by CQC is paramount. Kerry oversees delivery of those high standards by colleagues she calls her 'work family'. Nothing is more important to Kerry than providing a safe, well-run environment that residents call ‘home’ and staff enjoy coming to.
Care is not just a job for Kerry – it is a passion. After leaving school, Kerry went straight into care, working as a care assistant in a local care home. By the tender age of 20, Kerry had been promoted to a senior carer and, by 24, a care manager – where she remained until her early 30s.
‘Apart from a short stay in an NHS Critical Care Unit at the Royal Preston Hospital after I first qualified, I have spent all my adult working life in the care home sector. It is a sector which I love and can’t imagine working anywhere else,’ Kerry explains.
Set in the market town of Poulton-le-Fylde, Alexandra care home provides an exceptional standard of care for up to 117 residents, with an established team dedicated in providing Respite care, Nursing care, Residential care, EMI and dementia care.
At Alexandra care home, you will expect to find the following:
- Exceptional personal care and 24 hour support
- Nutritionally balanced meals, freshly-prepared throughout the day
- Comfortable, homely accommodation with the highest standards of cleanliness
- Daily activities that help stimulate the mind and body
Our nursing services cover a wide range of illnesses and disabilities.
Our primary specialism is in dementia. There are over 100 variants of dementia, and we have residents with Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, Korsakoff and other types of dementia.
Unfortunately, dementia in its more advanced stages can lead to residents displaying behavioural difficulties. This is why we have specialist EMI and Dementia Units, so we can accommodate most forms of diagnosis in a safe and appropriate environment.
We are seeing growing numbers of residents with diabetes and we can help to manage that diagnosis. Preparing and cooking food from a varied nutritional menu on site is important is an advantage in caring for residents with diabetes.
Please talk to us and we will arrange a tour and have a discussion around the most appropriate care package for yours or your loved one’s illness or diagnosis.

There are various strict guidelines in place which we follow to the letter. These include the five KLOES – CQC standards, and bi-weekly LFTs for staff. The important point is that the Group provides mandatory in-house training and ongoing assessments to ensure that staff follow rules & regulations, and best practise, precisely. |

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications |
---|
Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.
