Our Building and Facilities

Ridgewood Court was opened in April 2018.

We have a beautifully finished home with some great design features that we hope will make our residents feel very at home and also enhance the quality of their time living here.

The residential care home has fantastic features, including an authentic cinema room decked out with luxury seating, soft lighting and movie memorabilia. At the end of each week, our residents enjoy Fizzy Fridays here, watching a film with popcorn a glass of fizz, or anything else which takes their fancy. They also love their monthly cheese and wine afternoons.

There is a hairdressing and beauty salon in our home, and our mobile hairdresser visits for appointments with our residents. This room is also used for pampering sessions, with treatments available for both ladies and gents.

Activities Are So Important

Our home is often complimented for the wide variety of activities we offer and the connections with our local community. Every day, including at weekends, there is a dedicated activities leader on hand to support our residents and enrich their lives.

Ridgewood Court has close links with Pensby Community Association, whom we are holding a joint summer fete with in the home’s grounds. We are also well connected to the local primary school, the children of whom regularly come in to give us a sneak preview of special shows and performances. Our residents also attend a dementia tea dance at Heswell Hall. Every week there are regular armchair exercise sessions with a trainer from the local gym.

The team here offer Dementia Friends training for loved ones and friends, as well as people from the local community. Our own residents have even been known to talk about their own personal experience of dementia at these sessions which is very powerful.

One of our residents used to breed budgies before she moved into residential care, so we have created our very own aviary here so that she could continue her passion. We already have our own flock of Ridgewood Court budgies and have more on the way! Our residents also loved their weekly visits from Brambles the dog, who joins us from Therapy Dogs Nationwide in nearby Birkenhead.

Ridgewood Court has a boutique shop ‘Gifts for Me and You’ (GFMY), selling handcrafted gifts that have been made by artists in the Pensby and wider Wirral area. There is everything from candles and pictures, to jewellery and jams. Our care home receives 10 per cent of the profits of everything we sell, which pays for more treats for our residents!

Care home features coming soon!

We are creating an old fashioned vintage sweet shop and pharmacy in the home. With old jars of sweets and antique scales to weigh them out, this area will be a real step back in time for our residents, many of whom live with dementia.

Ridgewood Court has other exciting new additions on the horizon. We are purchasing a special piece of equipment that simulates a train journey. With screens either side playing out different routes, it will feel as though residents are riding cross country on a steam locomotive! Ridgewood Court is also getting a Magic Table, which have been used in Sanctuary Care’s other homes, including Lake View Residential Care Home in Telford. Staff have been amazed at the joy this table brings to their residents who live with dementia, as they can interact with one another through simple light games projected onto a surface.
