Meet The Manager

Jacinta Greatrex is Home Manager at Rowan Court Care Home.

Local to Newcastle-under-Lyme and looking for an excellent care home? Rowan Court Care Home welcomes you to come and meet the Home Manager for a cup of tea to learn about the facilities on offer. Couples and companions are warmly welcomed in our home where their well-being, comfort, and happiness are our top priority. Offering a wide range of care, Rowan Court can assist with some of the most complex care requirements from residential care to some of the best respite care in Staffordshire.

Welcome to Rowan Court Care Home in Staffordshire

Rowan Court Care Home, just off the main Silverdale Road in Newcastle-under-Lyme, is only a mile from the town centre, yet backs onto fields and overlooks Lyme Brook. The home has good transport links with a regular local bus route connecting the bus station. It has an excellent local reputation and enjoys close links with the next-door Queen Elizabeth Bowls Club.

Rowan Court is founded on our principles of compassion and high quality, and our team of dedicated staff provide excellent, personalised care, whether it’s residential, dementia or nursing. We understand the value of keeping residents physically and emotionally engaged, and in this, we are supported by a wide community of local groups, who are fully involved in various activities. The extensive gardens at Rowan Court nursing home are in the process of being re-landscaped, to provide raised beds, a potting shed and patio areas, adding to the existing lawns and mature trees

At our nursing home in Staffordshire, we put particular focus on dementia care. Learning residents’ life stories, introducing reminiscence sessions, and using the internet as a resource for evoking memories and past customs are all excellent launching pads to fully rounded care and a sense of well-being.

All bedrooms are ample in size, and we encourage residents to put their own stamp on their rooms and take pride in their photos and keepsakes that they have on display. Our bright lounges, full of chatter, are companionable, social spaces, with quiet spots too for reading or doing a jigsaw.

Please call our friendly home manager and team if you have any further questions. Better still, come and visit and our front of house team at Rowan Court would be glad to show you around the home. We also have a dedicated Facebook page that shows a little of what we get up to every day.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

Avery Healthcare has always made the health and safety of our residents and staff a priority, and the Covid-19 pandemic has required us to raise our exacting standards to even higher levels. That is why we are taking the innovative step to introduce a cleaning system into our care homes that is already proven to kill 99.9% of viruses, including MRSA, e-Coli, norovirus and the SARS virus (which is similar to Cov-2, which causes Covid-19).

Avery is now leading in the care sector with the testing of an established cleaning system that refreshes and sanitises a bedroom in less than an hour, with a larger capacity variant addressing communal areas. Keeping both areas clean in this way will be an effective method in how Avery care homes manage their environments, to keep them as virus and bacteria-free as possible.

All Avery homes are now equipped with Topaz Machines ready for when we can allow visiting into the homes. The system hosts two units, one larger which dispenses hand sanitiser to visitors upon arrival and exit; it also provides an important messaging display screen to advise visitors of the latest news, and the other, a smaller screen, which operates as a thermal checker so that we can support temperature checks of those entering the building. Yet another fantastic piece of technology that provides relatives with safer, more efficient visits with their loved ones.

As we’ve learned during this pandemic, we are all in this together. We want our residents, staff, and their respective families to know that when they are in an Avery care home, that it is one of the safest and cleanest places to be. We also want relatives to be confident that their loved ones are being cared for in the best possible way, and for anyone in the position of placing a loved one in to care, to have the peace of mind that an Avery home will be a clean and safe haven.

Avery Healthcare has invested in outdoor garden ‘visitor pods’

The pods, are a garden room specifically designed to facilitate safe face-to-face contact with relatives and visitors. Each pod contains a floor to ceiling partition screen and a hands-free intercom so that communication is clear and safe for use. They are fitted with internal electrics and two, low-surface temperature electric panel heaters – suitable for these winter months.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Activities Are So Important

Our Staffordshire care home has established strong ties with local schools and associations, who play a valuable role in ensuring residents remain part of the wider community. Students from Newcastle-under-Lyme’s college are regular visitors and spend many days making friends with residents and joining in with activities, which may be:

  • Bowling
  • Gardening
  • Choir sessions with children
  • Crafting and clay modelling
  • Wine and cheese tasting
  • Dressing up
  • Sitting in the garden in big hats

Rowan Court has its own minibus which regularly takes residents on trips to places of interest all year round. Our full-time Activity Coordinator is always surprising us with new and stimulating places to visit. There’s nothing like a change of scene to raise the spirits.
