Meet The Manager

Malaika Charles is Home Manager at Sandfields.

I'm a qualified and experienced nurse – I've worked in hospitals and care homes for over twenty years. I joined Care UK in 2014 and have worked my way up to clinical lead, deputy manager and now home manager.

No two days are ever the same here at Sandfields. Every resident is treated as an individual and according to their changing needs. My favourite part of the day is meeting with my team at the start of the day, receiving handovers from each unit and supporting colleagues to make decisions that will make a difference in the lives of the residents.

Outside of work, I'm very connected with my church and the local community. I also like to spend my free time going camping, sightseeing and connecting with friends and families all over the world via social media.

Malaika Charles

Sandfields is a purpose-built care home in Cheltenham providing quality residential, respite, nursing and dementia care in luxurious surroundings.

Built over three floors, Sandfields sets the standard in comfort. The floors are divided into two suites, each with its own dining room, lounge and spacious en-suite bedrooms. Creating smaller communities in the home makes it easier for residents to get to know each other, and it keeps hustle and bustle to a minimum.

Sandfields also has wonderful facilities for your loved one to enjoy, including a café, hair and beauty salon and cinema room. The experienced team provides person-centred care based around residents' personal interests and hobbies, supporting them to live fulfilling lives.

Safe Visiting Space
safe-tick We have a safe visiting space

All Care UK homes now have purpose-built internal or external visiting suites available which enable visits to take place from behind a sealed glass panel, using a sound system to assist with communication. Where Government guidance and local health teams allow, these suites make it possible to continue visiting even when we have a case of Covid-19 in the home.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Activities Are So Important

Each day brings a selection of activities to Sandfields. Living here is about being free to do whatever makes you happy. Our activity sessions range from technology to creative writing, comedy clubs to quizzes, and there are knitting, Scrabble, and gardening clubs too. Keeping active and independent is vital as we get older. We support any residents who are keen to continue doing routine, familiar tasks. One gentleman helps with maintenance checks while other residents enjoy doing dusting or folding laundry.
