Meet The Manager

Jane Maxwell is General Manager at Sherrell House Care Home.

I have worked in the care sector for 19 years, but I was inspired to join Excelcare in particular because of the strong family feel and environment. All team members make you feel like you belong from the moment you start to work here. From when I first visited Sherrell House, I was so impressed with the compassion I could feel from the team every time that they spoke to, or about the people living in the home. When I started at my first job in care, I was quite disheartened as there was no real team spirit or motivation. However, I am so glad that I continued in care, because that is certainly not the case at Sherrell House. I am part of a team that puts in 100% all of the time and is incredibly passionate. This is a fantastic environment, and I’m looking forward to seeing where my future in Excelcare takes me.

At Sherrell House, we pride ourselves on the welcoming atmosphere we have created, through spending quality time with residents and involving friends and family in their care.

Our dedicated and skilled team of carers, nurses and support staff, many of whom live locally in Chigwell, Ilford and Walthamstow, provide a range of respite care and long-term care including residential care, residential dementia care, nursing care, nursing dementia care and end of life care.

We are also able to support people who are living with dementia and have high dependency needs. We are committed to supporting the on-going health, wellbeing and happiness of all of the people who live in our attractive and beautifully furnished care home.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

As always, at Excelcare our first priority is putting the safety and wellbeing of the people living and working in our care homes and their family and friends, at the centre of any actions we take.

We would like to take this opportunity to reassure you that we are continuously monitoring COVID-19 pandemic guidelines released by the Government, Public Health England and CQC, (the independent regulator of health and social care) as a matter of the utmost priority. This is to ensure that we keep everyone involved with our services safe and that each of our care home team members are supported to safely continue their work in providing the highest quality care in such unprecedented times.

Robust and comprehensive contingency plans have been put in place in response to the Coronavirus outbreak in the UK. We have set up a COVID-19 Response Team to review and share up to date guidance and information to our colleagues working in each of our services. We are keeping our contingency and risk management plans under regular review and updated as advised by the Government and Public Health England.

We are still supporting people to move into our care homes, so please do give your local Excelcare care home a call if you are looking for care or need any advice or assistance.

Where we are supporting new residents from the community to move into our care homes, we have clear protocols in place. This ensures that where possible they have been COVID-19 tested; and where this is not possible, they will be screened for symptoms of COVID-19. If it is deemed appropriate for an individual to move in, they will be required to self-isolate for 14 days for their safety and the safety of others.

In line with Government guidance, any resident moving in or returning from hospital will have to be tested before being accepted into our care. We have clear protocols in place to ensure the safety of all our residents and care home teams.

Activities Are So Important

At Sherrell House Care Home, we encourage residents to maintain existing interests and hobbies as well as developing new ones through a varied calendar of activities – heightening a sense of belonging and promoting movement, sociability and cognitive ability.

Our art and cooking sessions allow residents to experiment with their creativity and improve their skills, as well as often teaching our team a thing or two! Our popular bingo and quiz sessions, often hosted in our very own Queen Victoria Bar, bring people together for light-hearted, lively afternoons.
