Meet The Manager

Simon Dixey is Home Manager at Alma Court Care Home.

Hi, my name is Simon, and I am delighted to be the home manager here at Alma Court.

I joined the Alma Court Family in 2015 and have over 24 years of experience in the healthcare sector. I first joined Alma Court as a Registered Nurse and have progressed within the company, proudly becoming the registered manager in 2020.

I would describe myself as someone who is kind and caring, who is hard working and has a positive attitude. In my spare time, I love spending time with my family, and watching movies and have recently started jogging.

I am proud of my career and the positive difference I have made in the lives of others and I look forward to welcoming you to our home.

Dedicated, Specialist and Complex Dementia Care in Staffordshire

Alma Court care home in Cannock is situated in Heath Hayes, not far from the lovely countryside of Cannock Chase and the A460. Alma Court Care Home is a purpose-built specialist dementia care home. We recognise that moving into a strange home, away from familiar surroundings, can be stressful both for the dementia resident and their families, so we do our utmost to help our residents settle in as quickly and sympathetically as possible.

We understand that caring for people with dementia is hard (both emotionally and physically) for family, friends and caregivers which is why, at Alma Court Care Home, our residents are received with compassion and kindness. The care which we provide is delivered by empathetic and friendly staff, in thoughtfully designed surroundings. Concentrating on a holistic approach and offering individually tailored therapies, we help many residents with complex dementia needs live purposeful and happy lives.

All our bedrooms are spacious, bright and generously sized which gives plenty of space to add keepsakes and personal belongings. We encourage our residents to bring items from home, as the connection with their personal home can assist with dementia residents’ positive mental well-being.

Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

We are confident that our care homes are now some of the very safest places to live and work.

All of our staff have been trained in additional and heightened cleansing protocols and hygiene regimes, and these are being supported by a leading sanitisation system as part of our comprehensive infection controls. Testing regimes will continue for staff, residents and visitors.

We have re-aligned the resident in-house services to meet social distance guidance from the Government, for areas such as lounges and dining rooms, and for visiting entertainers and hair dressers; we are working hard to restore these services within the ‘new normal’ circumstances as soon as we can, when lockdown rules allow.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Infection Control Training Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections.
safe-tick Sterilisation & Disinfection Devices We are using sterilisation and/or disinfection devices within our care setting.
safe-tick Virus Testing We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting.
Safe Visiting Space

Avery Healthcare has invested in outdoor garden ‘visitor pods’

The pods, are a garden room specifically designed to facilitate safe face-to-face contact with relatives and visitors. Each pod contains a floor to ceiling partition screen and a hands-free intercom so that communication is clear and safe for use. They are fitted with internal electrics and two, low-surface temperature electric panel heaters – suitable for these winter months.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Our Building and Facilities

We are proud to have a unique, innovative and engaging sensory area, which delivers visual, touch and sound-based therapies — which is just as popular.

We welcome the resources that the internet can bring to those with memory loss. YouTube can call up past events that strike a chord and The Daily Sparkle, a reminiscence magazine can spark connections too.

Activities Are So Important

There’s always something fun and engaging happening at our nursing home in Cannock. Our Well-Being Coordinators provide varied and stimulating activities every day, in both group and one-to-one settings. From arts and crafts to giant football exercise classes, pampering sessions to live entertainment and pet therapy, there is something for everyone to enjoy. It might only be a goal with a balloon ball, but it’s still satisfying!

We also love to get out and about ourselves, and some of our favourite outings include visiting the local park for ice-creams and the local pub for lunch as well as regular trips to nearby Cannock Chase or further afield throughout Staffordshire.
