Vendula Waine is Matron at St Luke's Hospital - Oxford.
Vendula qualified as a Registered Nurse in 2005. Since that time, she has developed a broad range of skills and experience across different healthcare settings including working in a range of care homes and hospital units.
Vendula joined St Luke's Hospital as Deputy Matron in 2014 and was promoted to the position of Matron in 2017. Throughout her nursing career, she has continued her professional development; She was awarded a Diploma in Leadership for Health & Social Care in 2017.
Welcome to St. Luke’s Hospital. St Luke’s is a unique care home and every part contributes something special to another. As well as providing long term nursing care to the older person, we also provide rehabilitation services. These are mainly post-operative enabling adults to enjoy the expertise of our team of 5 Physiotherapists and 2 Occupational Therapists to regain strength following surgery.
The availability of short stay beds enables us to book respite care for any period from a weekend with no carer available to a few months whilst building work is carried out. The rehabilitation team also provide services to our long stay residents, including exercise classes, enabling all to remain as independent as possible.
We have a large team of qualified nurses, enabling us to care for more complex nursing cases such as those funded by continuing care and we work with our local hospice to take a few more complex palliative care cases who cannot be cared for at home.
All our skills and knowledge enhances our ability to care for all those in need of care. We specialise in physical disabilities and are not a dementia home, although we may care for patients for whom dementia is not the primary need of care.
We have a full activities programme overseen by our senior OT.

Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.
What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe | ||
---|---|---|
We were a CQC approved designated setting during the peak of the pandemic which means that our infection control standards are deemed to be satisfactory for managing Covid positive patients. We are very aware from room sanitisation between residents to isolation of those with infections as well as keeping unwell staff away from residents. |
Infection Control Initiatives in place | ||
---|---|---|
Air Filtration & Purification | We are using air filtration and/or air purification devices within our care setting. | |
Independent Assessments | We have been independently assessed in our approach to infection control. | |
Infection Control Training | Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections. | |
Sterilisation & Disinfection Devices | We are using sterilisation and/or disinfection devices within our care setting. | |
Virus Testing | We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting. |
Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications |
---|
Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant. Wireless Internet access (WiFi) Yes, our care home has WiFi in all our resident’s rooms. Mobile Phone Network Coverage (mobile “signal”) The Care Organisation has not indicated availability Telephone for external calling Yes, our care home provides a telephone in all our resident’s rooms. |
Social media provides an up to date window on the activities within a provider's setting.
With the restrictions on visiting during the pandemic, social media platforms such as these offer real insight when you are choosing a provider.
Our Building and Facilities |
---|
Our facilities are some of the best in the region as they are designed to support all aspects of your needs. St Luke's has recently undertaken a major building project to add a new floor onto the Hospital. Along with 20 new bedrooms, this floor provides a range of social and activity rooms which feature some of the latest technology for patient comfort and safety. We are unique in Oxfordshire for having our own physiotherapy department on site. Some patients receive physiotherapy every day as part of their rehabilitation programme. For others, access to our range of exercise classes or a one-to-one session in our physio studio may be prescribed to help build up mobility and independence. |
