St Giles Care Home in Birmingham

Avery’s St Giles Care Home is a modern, purpose-built nursing home located in Tile Cross, in the east of Birmingham. Our home happily accommodates couples and companions who wish to remain together as they continue their care journey and make new memories side by side.

We offer two floors of round-the-clock nursing care and support and, on our top floor, residential care. If you’re looking for compassionate assisted living in Birmingham, St Giles care home certainly offers that. Our highly trained staff understand the importance of getting to know each individual resident, ensuring that the most professional and appropriate care can be always given.

Our attentive staff provides residents with full respect and dignity, allowing them as much independence as possible while in a safe and supportive environment.

We understand that moving into a residential home can be an emotionally stressful time and do our utmost to ensure that residents settle in as quickly as possible. Our friendly, welcoming attitude gives families peace of mind that their loved ones are in safe hands while living at our care home in Tile Cross.

There are multiple spaces within our St Giles nursing home for residents to spend time together enjoying each other’s company. Our bright and airy lounges are perfect for catching up with other residents or visiting family, and there are also quiet spots for peaceful activities. Refer to our regularly updated Facebook page to get a taste of what we get up to at St Giles Care Home.

All bedrooms come with en-suite showers and flat-screen TVs. There is plenty of space for residents to have their own belongings and personal mementoes beside them, to ensure they feel like it is a home from home.

St Giles Care Home is built around a central garden courtyard, which is particularly popular in summer as a quiet and relaxing outdoor space.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

Avery Healthcare has always made the health and safety of our residents and staff a priority, and the Covid-19 pandemic has required us to raise our exacting standards to even higher levels. That is why we are taking the innovative step to introduce a cleaning system into our care homes that is already proven to kill 99.9% of viruses, including MRSA, e-Coli, norovirus and the SARS virus (which is similar to Cov-2, which causes Covid-19).

Avery is now leading in the care sector with the testing of an established cleaning system that refreshes and sanitises a bedroom in less than an hour, with a larger capacity variant addressing communal areas. Keeping both areas clean in this way will be an effective method in how Avery care homes manage their environments, to keep them as virus and bacteria-free as possible.

All Avery homes are now equipped with Topaz Machines ready for when we can allow visiting into the homes. The system hosts two units, one larger which dispenses hand sanitiser to visitors upon arrival and exit; it also provides an important messaging display screen to advise visitors of the latest news, and the other, a smaller screen, which operates as a thermal checker so that we can support temperature checks of those entering the building. Yet another fantastic piece of technology that provides relatives with safer, more efficient visits with their loved ones.

As we’ve learned during this pandemic, we are all in this together. We want our residents, staff, and their respective families to know that when they are in an Avery care home, that it is one of the safest and cleanest places to be. We also want relatives to be confident that their loved ones are being cared for in the best possible way, and for anyone in the position of placing a loved one in to care, to have the peace of mind that an Avery home will be a clean and safe haven.

In another step by Avery Healthcare to help relative visiting during the pandemic, the Group has invested in more outdoor garden ‘visitor pods’ to be installed at all Avery Healthcare homes.

The pods, installed by Wild Environments, are a garden room specifically designed to facilitate safe face-to-face contact with relatives and visitors. Each pod contains a floor to ceiling partition screen and a hands-free intercom so that communication is clear and safe for use. They are fitted with internal electrics and two, low-surface temperature electric panel heaters – suitable for these winter months.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Activities Are So Important

At St Giles Care Home, we strive to create a warm and welcoming environment, where everyone can enjoy the variety of daily activities and events we put on. Our Well-being Coordinators understand the importance of tailoring activities to what is interesting and important to each individual, whilst also providing engaging and new opportunities. Some of our favourite group activities include bingo, sing-a-longs, film screenings and quizzes. Reminiscence plays an important part of life at our Birmingham care home and we regularly have one-to-one sessions with each resident in order to get to know them really well.

We also love to stay in touch with our surrounding Birmingham community and often have live entertainers come in to perform for us, and as we have our own minibus, we can get out on regular outings. From visits to the local shops and trips to museums, to inviting local Birmingham groups and schools to visit us, there is no shortage of things to keep everyone interested in life.
