Martine Butler is Registered Manager at Swimbridge House Nursing Home.
Martine is a qualified nurse with over 30 years’ experience of working within the Health and Social care sectors. Prior to joining Swimbridge House she worked as a senior regulatory inspector, quality and compliance manager, and care home manager within the independent sector and with Devon County Council, and most recently as Nurse Educator and Safeguarding Lead. Martine’s skills and experiences have equipped her with a strong commitment to continuous quality improvement, a process that she aims will become synonymous with the reputation of Swimbridge House.
Swimbridge House Nursing Home is a 44-bed nursing home, for those over 65, with a very homely atmosphere and plenty of personal attention.
The Home offers nursing, residential and respite care in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, where the physical and mental well-being of each resident is looked after in a warm and welcoming environment. The Home also specialises in dementia care and is accredited for the ‘Six Steps’ End-of-Life Care. The home is registered with the Care Quality Commission and is rated as ‘Good’.
The home is situated just outside the North Devon village of Swimbridge in a scenic rural setting, close to the A361 link road and in between the regional centre of Barnstaple and South Molton.

Accommodation Swimbridge House has a total of 44 bedrooms for residents’ use, all with lovely views of the surrounding countryside or overlooking our gardens. Many spacious bedrooms have en-suite wet rooms and others have en-suite toilets and washbasins. Each room is equipped with night lights, aerial cable, nursing bed duvet, pillows, and covers, a wardrobe, bedside table, arm chair and chest of drawers. There are electric profiling beds and a nurse call system in all the bedrooms. Since individuality is at the heart of our vision, residents are welcome to personalise their rooms by bringing special photographs, mementos and items of furniture. Communal areas The three bright, comfortable and sunny lounges are well equipped with armchairs, sofas and fitted laminate flooring and have views of the garden. Side corners allow family and friends to be welcomed in a homely, private environment. The dining rooms are situated on the ground floor and are connected to the lounge areas. Level access is available to all bedrooms, bathrooms and communal areas, including ramped access to car park and gardens. |

Each new bedroom has en-suite facilities with a shower and is tastefully decorated, with a unique and homely feel. To provide an environment suited for high quality care, all bedrooms have electric profiling beds, usability aids and a nurse call system. Other features include a wide corridor for easy wheelchair access, underfloor heating, ceiling hoists and grab-rails. |

A wide range of activities is provided to help keep a healthy body and mind and we will support residents to retain their independence to enjoy current hobbies and even pursue new hobbies. The Home has Activity co-ordinators to ensure that activities on offer are tailored to suit the needs of the residents. As well as a herb garden encouraging planting sessions, the home has its own mini-van, meaning residents can enjoy days out, for example at the local gardening centre or even at the beach. |
