Tracy Johnston is Home Manager at The Grand.
"I am a qualified Registered General Nurse and trained at the University of Central Lancashire, qualifying in 1999. Totalling 30 years of care/nursing experience, my passion lies with care homes. I have extensive management experience as a home manager including troubleshooting, care home turnaround and Regional management. These areas have given me a wealth of knowledge and decided to come back into the daily running of the care home after being out and about travelling many miles.
I am proud to be part of the team here at The Grand and to work for New Care working towards its vision. My team and I are dedicated to making each day different and special for residents.
The care we deliver is person-centred, ensuring that individual needs and requirements are met. It is important to us that residents retain as much independence as possible with support to continue pursuing the interests and hobbies they have always enjoyed."
A ‘New Generation’ care home, The Grand is a purpose-built 82 bed care facility, situated on Greythorn Drive in West Bridgford, Nottingham. Expertly designed, the home meets all CQC requirements and provides the highest standards of safety, comfort and care.

Our Building and Facilities |
---|
Benefiting from a prominent and spacious corner location, The Grand is an attractive building that blends traditional brickwork with contemporary full height window features, reaching from the ground floor up to the top floor. Internally, the attention to detail is impressive. The high specification and décor of The Grand have been carefully considered by an interior designer, creating stylish yet comfortable and practical spaces with infection control built into the environment. Arranged over four floors, the care home only offers bedrooms with en suite wet rooms. It also provides a beautiful lounge and dining room on each floor, as well as an assisted spa bathroom. Additional facilities include a library, exercise area and a hairdresser with nail bar. It is fresh, elegant and welcoming; a home for life.
In line with our care philosophy at The Grand, we have a “Magic” table or “Tovertafel” in the dementia community. There is significant literature on the positive effects on dementia of play. From our observations, the impact of the “Magic Table” is extremely positive for residents living with dementia. Residents and their relatives alike can play freely on the “Magic Table”. In addition, this is a particularly useful opportunity for involving children to experience positive play with their older relatives. New Care is one of a small group of providers who are leading the way in the UK, by purchasing the “Magic” table as part of our overarching strategy to provide opportunities for our residents living with dementia and their relatives to have fun together. |

Activities Are So Important |
---|
At New Care Homes we have dedicated activity staff who devise and deliver our activities and well-being programme. We work with our whole staff team so that everyone can participate in supporting our residents to have fun and enjoy life. We offer a range of activities that are based on our resident’s feedback. We have a calendar of events planned throughout the whole year. We have established some groups in all of our homes, which link to residents, own hobbies and interests. This currently includes a range of subjects from gardening clubs to bridge clubs. We are always keen to start up new groups, to make sure we are supporting all of our residents to have a full and enjoyable life. This can either be re-engaging with a previous hobby or interest, or even learning something quite new. The groups provide opportunities for residents, relatives and other to get together to enjoy a shared passion and have a good time together. In order to develop this aspect of the service, we have also invested in ‘OOMPH!’ well-being. Oomph! provides training to our entire staff team to deliver a 360 degree approach to wellbeing, demonstrating a positive impact at all times. The training and support packages enable our staff to deliver everyday mental stimulation, regular, fun physical activity and new experiences & connections for our residents. We have enabled all the members of our staff team to provide a set of complementary services to enhance the mental, physical and emotional wellbeing of our residents. In addition to our approach to activities, we also offer trips that are tailored to people’s individual needs. This includes a variety of venues including garden centres, museums, shopping malls, the seaside and distilleries etc. We have a Wellbeing team who offer a wellbeing programme 7 days a week. We also are partnered with OOMPH who support our wider team. Sample programme to follow. |
