Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

Avery Healthcare has always made the health and safety of our residents and staff a priority, and the Covid-19 pandemic has required us to raise our exacting standards to even higher levels. That is why we are taking the innovative step to introduce a cleaning system into our care homes that is already proven to kill 99.9% of viruses, including MRSA, e-Coli, norovirus and the SARS virus (which is similar to Cov-2, which causes Covid-19).

Avery is now leading in the care sector with the testing of an established cleaning system that refreshes and sanitises a bedroom in less than an hour, with a larger capacity variant addressing communal areas. Keeping both areas clean in this way will be an effective method in how Avery care homes manage their environments, to keep them as virus and bacteria-free as possible.

All Avery homes are now equipped with Topaz Machines ready for when we can allow visiting into the homes. The system hosts two units, one larger which dispenses hand sanitiser to visitors upon arrival and exit; it also provides an important messaging display screen to advise visitors of the latest news, and the other, a smaller screen, which operates as a thermal checker so that we can support temperature checks of those entering the building. Yet another fantastic piece of technology that provides relatives with safer, more efficient visits with their loved ones.

As we’ve learned during this pandemic, we are all in this together. We want our residents, staff, and their respective families to know that when they are in an Avery care home, that it is one of the safest and cleanest places to be. We also want relatives to be confident that their loved ones are being cared for in the best possible way, and for anyone in the position of placing a loved one in to care, to have the peace of mind that an Avery home will be a clean and safe haven.

Avery Healthcare has invested in outdoor garden ‘visitor pods’

The pods, are a garden room specifically designed to facilitate safe face-to-face contact with relatives and visitors. Each pod contains a floor to ceiling partition screen and a hands-free intercom so that communication is clear and safe for use. They are fitted with internal electrics and two, low-surface temperature electric panel heaters – suitable for these winter months.

Activities Are So Important

Whether it is joining in with one of our popular hobby groups, going out on a trip in the minibus or just catching up with your friends and neighbours in one of our three coffee lounges, you will always have company in the Hawthorns retirement community. A lifestyle choice which embraces friendships and brings people together through common interests and experiences. Exciting links with the local Aldridge community bring fresh ideas into the home and encourages residents to remain involved with life outside the home too. Aldridge WI, local chess and bowling clubs, inter-generational visits from Aldridge schools and nurseries, youth musicians, and open Coffee mornings are just a few of the groups that regularly visit the home and engage with residents.

Your views count and at the Hawthorns the residents are very much involved with decision making through the residents committee. Our residents have their finger on the pulse of life in the home and they help influence change and implement new ideas.

Focussing on your well-being and mobility, you could join in one of the many gentle exercise classes that visit the home weekly. Our care home encourages an active, healthy lifestyle and if that’s not your thing, then take it easy over a nice pot of tea on the sun terrace or in the quiet, relaxing lounge areas. Our well-stocked library is a regular hangout for the weekly reading group and everyone enjoys the variety of entertainment acts that come into the care home to perform for the residents. Family and friends are welcome to visit and join in the activities and entertainment. So, why not take a fresh look at residential care and discover how the Hawthorns Aldridge is different from anything else you’ve seen before.
