Marie Welsh is Home Manager at The Lawns Residential Care Home.
Marie has worked in the Health and Social Care sector for over 20 years. In this time she has been able to grow not only in her career but as a person. She began as a care assistant and has since progressed to Home Manager. Although it may be challenging at times, she finds her job extremely rewarding and loves making her residents feel truly valued. As Home Manager, she takes pride in empowering a positive culture across the home with the team and the residents. In her spare time, Marie is a keen photographer; some of her photographs have even made it onto East Midlands News. Marie believes that “every day is a new opportunity and makes life feel brighter.”
The Lawns is a happy and friendly care home, situated in a peaceful residential area near Oadby in Leicestershire. A modern, spacious home with great access to local amenities, The Lawns offers residential care for older people.
The home is set across two floors with communal lounges and quiet spaces spread out across the building. This means peace and tranquillity is never far away. Our silver service dining room offers delicious and well balanced home cooked meals and our thoughtfully furnished bedrooms are designed with comfort in mind.
We enjoy a comprehensive activities programme based on our current resident interests, including: trips to the local shops, days out to the garden centre to get supplies for Gardening Club, talks from the local historical society and our yearly boat trip on the canal to Barrow upon Soar with the Peter Le Marchant Trust.
In addition to this, our residents enjoy visits from local choirs and talks from community groups. There really is something for everyone.

Activities Are So Important |
---|
A willingness to get involved and try new things is something we see time and again with our Magic Moments activities programme. We have a specific recreation and activities coordinator who oversees everything, but all our staff regularly brainstorm new ideas, too. And our residents vote on their suggestions at our monthly activity meetings, so we can be sure everyone’s looking forward to something, every day. Activities vary each week: from crossword sessions and arts and crafts to visits from exotic animals and music and movement. And everything’s flexible. If it’s sunny we try and get outside, so everyone can appreciate the best of the day. Technology has opened up the world for us here; keeping our residents connected and stimulated. We have an iPad for residents to use in the home, and our recreation and activities staff are using it more and more with residents. We also have a games console which is popular when younger relatives come to visit. We’ve built excellent links to the community, allowing residents to continue their lives outside the home with ease. A number of residents regularly visit their hairdresser and the local shops independently, but we also have our own minibus for group trips out. Every brighterkind home now has a Magic Moments Club which provides a vast range of activities and fun things to do that are open to all of our residents: |
