Meet The Manager

Edwin Cabagui is Home Manager at The Orchard Nursing Home.

As The Orchard Nursing Home Manager, I have a strong conviction that each resident should have the opportunity to live their life as they wish to and with my team ensure we put compassionate care at the forefront of everything we do.

The Orchard Nursing Home in St Albans, is an attractive purpose-built home providing the highest level of residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 63 elderly residents.

The Orchard provides our residents with a full Care Pathway – offering a full suite of residential, nursing and dedicated dementia care, including trial stays, short stays and convalescent care, as well as long-term care. This means that our residents can feel confident in the knowledge that their home can cater for them both now, and in the future if their care needs were to change.

Care is provided closely in line with each resident’s person centred care plan, this not only details specific healthcare needs, but also important events that have happened so far in their lives and preferences in every day aspects of life. We appreciate the positive impact that family involvement can have in a residential care setting and we welcome active involvement and feedback from family members.

Our professional Care Team work closely with residents to ensure everyone who wishes to can play an active role in the day to day activities at the home. We have a dedicated Health and Wellbeing Coordinator who ensures there is a broad range of events for residents to participate in – from keep-fit classes to creative activities.

The dementia floor at The Orchard has been designed in line with recognised standards which are widely acknowledged as providing the best living environment for people with dementia. A dementia design approach ensures that residents are able to move freely, with bedrooms and communal areas appropriately laid out and clearly signposted to minimize any disorientation.

St Albans is a historic market town located about 19 miles north-west of London and 8 miles south west of Welwyn Garden City. St Albans benefits from a thriving cultural life, with regular concerts and theatre productions as various local venues, two museums and many historical features.

Our home is fully registered with the Care Quality Commission and Hospitality Assured accreditation.

The Orchard operates an open visiting policy, so loved ones can visit at the times that are convenient for them.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Our Building and Facilities

The Orchards bedrooms and communal areas have been designed and furnished to the highest standards, with every bedroom benefiting from their own en-suite facilities. We welcome our residents to make their room their own by decorating with small items of furniture and treasured possessions.

Many of our ground-floor rooms have private access to our large terrace and secure landscaped gardens, which offer plentiful outdoor space. When the weather is fine the enclosed gardens offer a tranquil retreat and the perfect backdrop for residents to relax or take part in any of our regular outdoor activities.

Internally, the home has a light, airy and welcoming ambience with residents benefiting from a broad and stimulating range of activities. The kitchenettes, which can be found in the dining areas help to enhance communal living in the home, as well as a range of seating areas where residents can relax together over a tea or coffee.
