Meet The Manager

Lynn Ward is Home Manager at Waterbeach Lodge.

With over 30 years of experience in the care sector, I began my career as a Registered Nurse with the NHS and have since managed care homes of various sizes, while also being instrumental in opening new ones. My passion lies in ensuring that residents experience an exceptional quality of life, often empowering them to achieve things they never thought possible, all within a warm and inclusive environment. I understand the importance of offering peace of mind to relatives by ensuring their loved ones are safe, well cared for, and truly content. I’m also deeply committed to fostering community integration and supporting my team to realise their full potential in this
ever-evolving and vital sector. My extensive experience, coupled with a genuine enjoyment of working with people, solidifies my role as a compassionate and effective leader in the care sector, contributing to the positive atmosphere at Waterbeach Lodge

Waterbeach Lodge is a stunning, purpose built care home situated on the A10 Ely Road, less than 6 miles from Cambridge City Centre. Waterbeach Lodge enjoys views over the countryside and is set in six acres of beautifully landscaped gardens.

The original site was established in 1818 and became a Convent for Nuns of the Carmelite Order in the early 1900’s, remaining that way until the late 1970s’. Since then the property has had various uses but many of the original buildings were left derelict, resulting in the demolition and rebuilding of the main structure, being the new Waterbeach Lodge as is now seen today. No expense has been spared on the magnificent interior, affording to all who visit an air of a top-star residential care home throughout. The ground floor lounge has been designed to offer an area in which Residents can meet and converse, partake in daily activities or simply enjoy the views of the wildlife that frequent the extensive grounds in which the care home stands. All bedroom suites are capacious; fusing contemporary comfort with timeless glamour and heritage associated with AgeCare’s unique style. All rooms are complemented with direct-dial telephone and television facilities, alongside state-of-the-art adjustable
orthopaedic beds and an emergency call system. Each room embodies full en-suite facilities and, due to the large floor plan of each suite, there are no restrictions when using wheelchairs or hoists. The top floor is now dedicated to dementia care.

Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

Staff and residents are the heart of our business. To protect them , all staff and residents have been offered (and in most cases received) the COVID-19 vaccination. Whilst the vaccine is one of the most effective ways to prevent severe illness from the disease, we continue our rigorous testing regime for coronavirus as this is the only way we can attempt to prevent the virus entering the home. As the vaccines efficacy is not 100%, the only true way to prevent infection is to avoid transmission as much as possible. Current guidance is to test staff three times a week (two lateral flow and one PCR) and residents every 28 days.

In the event of a positive test, regardless of symptoms, the home will alert the local Health Protection Agency and their advice will be sought, generally during such times visiting will be restricted until we can be sure that the case is isolated. In the event of multiple cases identified, the home will be locked down and residents quarantined to their rooms to ensure that transmission is minimised.

From the outset of the pandemic, we continue to have a robust supply chain of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) in place, and our staff are using this in accordance with the public health authority guidance. All of our staff continue to use full PPE throughout the building as per Government/PHE policy and we remain confident that our supplies are kept well stocked and all of our services have what they need.

Relatives visiting "in-house" are similarly required to be tested on site, wear PPE including mask, gloves and a gown to further reduce the potential of transmission.

Safe Visiting Space
safe-tick We have a safe visiting space

Relative visits can occur "in-house" in the resident's room or in one of our "secure pods" or via the gardens,

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.
