We are confident that our care homes are now some of the very safest places to live and work.

All of our staff have been trained in additional and heightened cleansing protocols and hygiene regimes, and these are being supported by a leading sanitisation system as part of our comprehensive infection controls. Testing regimes will continue for staff, residents and visitors.

We have re-aligned the resident in-house services to meet social distance guidance from the Government, for areas such as lounges and dining rooms, and for visiting entertainers and hair dressers; we are working hard to restore these services within the ‘new normal’ circumstances as soon as we can, when lockdown rules allow.

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

We have a lovely garden which surrounds the home and is wheelchair accessible, of course. Sitting out in the sunshine and admiring the roses when the weather is fine always raises our spirits. Our interiors are beautifully designed and allow plenty of room for all sorts of activities, socialising, or just for sitting quietly, if you prefer. Our cinema room is very popular, with those good old musicals firm favourites.

Family and friends are urged to come and visit as often as they like and get themselves as involved as their loved ones. The better the communication, the better the care. Come and enjoy an afternoon matinée in our cinema with us; we’ve even got the popcorn.

We like residents to personalise their bedrooms, which all have walk-in showers and flat screen TVs. Housekeepers see that they are always kept in order – the rooms that is, not the residents!

We put a special emphasis on keeping bodies moving. A healthy and active body means a healthy spirit and positive outlook. Some of residents had great fun in hosing down the patio and getting rid of the bird poo recently. They didn’t just sit there and watch others at work, they did it themselves! We enjoy sitting-down activities too. Here is some of what we do:

• Daily exercise session with personal trainer
• Cinema Club with all the good old favourite films
• Monthly visits of exotic animals and birds from the team at Zoo Lab
• Going to the local church and clubs
• Pottery lessons
• Going out for fish and chips

We have established strong ties with local schools and associations, which ensure that residents remain part of the wider community. The local Moulton Residents Association host their meetings at Ashurst,and residents help deliver their magazine. Moulton Church comes in for monthly Sunday services. We often have trips out with the other nearby Avery homes, Spencer House and Cliftonville, so we have a wide social circle to draw on.
