With years of experience and heeps of passion and determination, Kath leads a team who support people with a diagnosis of dementia and/or Alzheimer's disease and also for those who are older and more vulnerable requiring additional support with day to day living.
Kath has worked for GreenSquareAccord for five years and recently completed a Level 5 Leadership and Management Apprenticeship within health and social care, where she was awarded Apprentice of the Year by the City of Wolverhampton College.
Silver Birches is a residential care home in Chelmsley Wood, Solihull, catering for up to 50 frail elderly adults with dementia in ensuite individual rooms.
Comfortable, well-equipped facilities and a dedicated, qualified team of staff mean that individual needs are well-met at Silver Birches. Communal areas include a lounge, dining room and conservatory, all of which contribute to a homely and friendly atmosphere. Hairdressing services are also available on site, with other shops and community services close by.
Silver Birches uses the Eden Alternative, an approach that focuses on improving the ageing experience by engaging residents with plants, animals and children in a variety of activities, from flower arranging to cooking and crafts with local Brownie groups. In a six month trial of Eden at a similar Accord residential home, the number of residents using psychotropic drugs as part of dementia treatment fell from 47% to just 2%.
