Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

We are confident that our care homes are now some of the very safest places to live and work.

All of our staff have been trained in additional and heightened cleansing protocols and hygiene regimes, and these are being supported by a leading sanitisation system as part of our comprehensive infection controls. Testing regimes will continue for staff, residents and visitors.

We have re-aligned the resident in-house services to meet social distance guidance from the Government, for areas such as lounges and dining rooms, and for visiting entertainers and hair dressers; we are working hard to restore these services within the ‘new normal’ circumstances as soon as we can, when lockdown rules allow.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Infection Control Training Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections.
safe-tick Sterilisation & Disinfection Devices We are using sterilisation and/or disinfection devices within our care setting.
safe-tick Virus Testing We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting.
Safe Visiting Space

Avery Healthcare has invested in outdoor garden ‘visitor pods’

The pods, are a garden room specifically designed to facilitate safe face-to-face contact with relatives and visitors. Each pod contains a floor to ceiling partition screen and a hands-free intercom so that communication is clear and safe for use. They are fitted with internal electrics and two, low-surface temperature electric panel heaters – suitable for these winter months.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Our Building and Facilities

Standing in a elevated position on Banner Lane, with a commanding view over woodland that originally formed part of the historic Arden Forest, the home proudly announces its stylish credentials at the first sight.

The vibrant décor and full length windows of the foyer make a stunning impact on entering and proves a popular spot for residents to relax in too. Our café on the ground floor opens onto a large rear garden and terrace that surrounds the home, another favourite place for residents and their guests.

Dementia care is delivered from our Memory Care Suite. We work closely with families to gain an insight into the life stories of our residents through recollections and family photographs. This enables care plans to be truly person-centred and connected to family members. We also make use of the many resources that the internet can offer for use as reminiscence material.

Activities Are So Important

We like to get out and about at Avalon Court Care Centre whether it is a stroll through Bannerbrook woods across the road or just a trip to the local shops. When we are not doing this, you can find us enjoying some fun in our splendid rooftop garden with its amazing views and big sky. Group activities on a wide variety of subjects are conducted in the ground floor cafe or one of our lounges and are a great way to meet fellow residents. There really is something for everyone and guests are always welcome to join in.

See below for a selection of what our Activity Co-coordinators put on for us in their stimulating and interesting programme of daily recreation:

• Visiting the Butterfly Farm
• Yoga in the garden
• Tai chi in the garden
• Planting flowers in the garden
• Holding vintage tea parties

Most residents like to join in the activities with gusto, as we try to devise something for everybody, but it is their choice. We do like to get out of our retirement home and visit local sites of interest as much as we can, Warwick Castle for example, or nearer home, a walk through Bannerbrook woods. Then there’s always shopping, a trip to the local pub, garden centre or the theatre. Our minibus is well recognised throughout Coventry and the surrounding Warwickshire countryside!
