Meet The Manager

Simona Cioinac is General Manager at Austen House.

"Hello. My name is Simona, and I am the General Manager at Austen House. I look forward to welcoming you to our home.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I love to see prospective residents, families and friends, new staff members, and the local community take an interest in our care home.

My role is to ensure that we deliver what we say we do. I am responsible for overall service delivery to our residents and community, inspiring and leading the team and ensuring high governance and compliance standards are achieved."

Simona Cioinac

Austen House is a purpose-built residential care home in Reading, set in a semi-rural location within easy reach of Wokingham and London. Our staff is dedicated to meeting residents’ personal needs, and our nurses are on duty 24 hours a day to provide top-quality elderly care.

Staff on Austen House’s specialised Memory Lane Community(for people living with dementia) have been awarded certificates by the Alzheimer's Society for passing a course that helped them enhance their understanding of dementia. The course involves improved insight into dementia and Alzheimer’s disease and learning that feelings matter most.

Austen House welcomes enquiries and, whether they're looking for advice or support, is pleased to show people around if they want to investigate for themselves.

Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

We are working within the government guidelines to help protect our staff and clients.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Infection Control Training Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections.
safe-tick Virus Testing We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting.
Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Our Building and Facilities

At Austen House, we have four community areas: three that care for the needs of individuals living with dementia and one that provides care for a wide range of other nursing needs.

In 2016, significant capital investment was made into our two ground-floor communities, with Barchester's interior design team leading the transformation of creative spaces designed to stimulate and encourage interaction while creating fresh and elegant communal rooms and bedrooms.

At Austen House, we boast our own purpose-designed Hair Salon and a wealth of large and small communal areas, as well as our welcoming reception area, which greets all visitors with fresh coffee and homemade cakes. With no restriction on visiting, we encourage the active involvement of family and are happy to accommodate relatives and visitors joining their loved ones for meals and activities within the home.

Activities Are So Important

Here at Austen House, we like to get to know those we support. From the day they move in, our activities team will spend time on an individual basis learning about each resident's interests, likes and dislikes, life history, and favourite hobbies.

We provide a wide range of activities, from one-to-one time, manicures, and board games to live entertainment, prize bingo, and our ever-popular cheese and wine events. Our activities team will also tailor individual activities to ensure residents can have as much or as little involvement as they choose.

In the summer, greater focus is given to outdoor activities, such as barbecues and garden parties. Together with our Chef, themed events are planned throughout the year, bringing activities and food together.

Our activities team is easily identifiable in their yellow polo shirts. They embrace ideas and suggestions from residents and their relatives to ensure that the activities provided keep those we support engaged, stimulated, and entertained.

Arrange a tour today and learn more about daily life at this warm, welcoming Reading care home.
