Meet The Manager

Penelope Tyau is Registered Manager at Blackwater Mill Residential Home.

Penny made the change to Health and Social care from Corporate Finance to try and make a difference in whatever way she could. She found her niche in dementia care proving that she can teach and ensure that dementia care is given in a person-centred and dignified way. It is Penny's ultimate goal to build on this foundation and create a loving and secure environment for the residents of the home.

When she is not working Penny enjoys time with her family, archery, travelling, hiking and live music.

Blackwater Mill is set in stunning landscaped gardens next to a vast mill pond fed by the river Medina, providing a serene and idyllic environment in which to retire.

The residents enjoy the interesting wildlife including ducks, swans, fish, red squirrels and chickens. The building dates back to 1790, when it was a working grain mill, now providing charm and character to the home.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

We ask that visits are still booked in advanced so we are able to plan accordingly. Visitors will still need to take rapid flow tests on arrival and wear a mask.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Virus Testing We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting.
Safe Visiting Space

We offer a safe visiting space.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Activities Are So Important

We have our very own activities co-ordinators at Blackwater Mill who curate a schedule of activities for the residents as well as events, entertainment and outings. It is important to stay active as we get older and the activities are designed to stimulate both the body and the mind.

In addition, we love taking advantage of the beautiful setting we have by the lake and always welcome friends and family to join us for events such as barbecues and charity fundraising.
