Muriel (Mo) Sharp is Care Home Manager at Brandon Lodge Care Home.
Brandon Lodge Care Home in Brandon, County Durham, provides high-quality nursing, dementia and temporary respite care.
A modern two-storey home within easy reach of Durham city centre, Brandon Lodge has three light and airy lounges. These areas offer residents a choice of areas to relax quietly or join in activities and social gatherings.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe | ||
---|---|---|
The welfare, safety and happiness of residents, team members and visitors is our number one priority. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, our additional stringent measures are constantly reviewed to ensure we continue to meet Government and Public Health guidance, for everyone’s safety and wellbeing, whilst continuing to offer a comfortable and happy place to live, work and visit. |
Infection Control Initiatives in place | ||
---|---|---|
Infection Control Training | Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections. | |
Infection Screening | We are using technology to screen for infections & monitor symptoms. | |
Virus Testing | We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting. |
Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications |
---|
Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant. Activities Are So Important |
---|
Another way we can help our residents feel at home at Brandon Lodge is by encouraging them to do familiar things. Our dedicated Activities Leaders gently encourage residents to carry on doing things they enjoy. If someone had a hobby or pastime they did before they arrived at the home, we encourage them to continue it with us. Or perhaps they would like to learn something new? The important thing is that we treat every resident as an individual. Residents who enjoy sharing time with others, either in our home or on an organised trip out, are most welcome. However, residents who prefer quiet time alone will also be respected. At Brandon Lodge, our local police dog, Jet, visits regularly for pet therapy interactions. Pet therapy has been found to greatly benefit our residents, who love to cuddle and stroke Jet. Our home also has a lovely outdoor garden area, which our residents love to explore and relax in. In the summer, they particularly like sitting in shaded outdoor areas and enjoying ice cream.
