Maria Wegner is Home Manager at Brendoncare Froxfield.
I am a registered nurse who trained at the medical academy in Bydgoszcz in Poland. On completion of my training, I worked on a hospital ward then in a doctors’ surgery before returning to the hospital to work on the neurological ward. I moved to the UK in 2007 and joined the care team at a nursing home then worked as a support work for people with learning disabilities. I started working as a nurse in a nursing home in 2010. In 2012, I joined Brendoncare Froxfield as a registered nurse, later becoming its Deputy Manager then its Registered Manager in 2019.
Brendoncare is a registered charity, dedicated to improving the quality of life for older people through our 10 care homes and 90 friendship and wellbeing clubs. Brendoncare Froxfield provides nursing care for 44 residents including a safe environment for 11 people living with dementia. Froxfield provides a Marlborough care home where older people can be helped to live as independently as possible and where the emphasis is on quality and enjoyment of life.
Located in the village of Froxfield, it has all the convenience of a purpose-built home while the attractive gardens, surrounding Wiltshire countryside and neighbouring 17th century almshouses lend it charm.
The Brendoncare Care for Life promise ensures that once residents are accepted in one of our homes they will not have to leave due to lack of funds. Care for Life is a charitable third party top-up* payment that can support those residents who may have been with us for a while and whose own funds have depleted to the threshold set by the Local Authority’s Social Services. At that point social services will start to contribute to the cost of care. We fund about 20% of residents in this way so, in order to help with our own financial planning, we ask residents to complete a financial assessment before moving in to one of our homes. For residents and family members the Care for Life promise often provides enormous relief and reassurance.
*Top-up payments are the difference that needs to be ‘topped-up’ between what the public sector will pay and a care home’s full fees. Third party top-up payments are payments made by a third party, such as a family member or a charity, such as Brendoncare, through our Care for Life promise. Social Services will assess and still require residents to make an affordable contribution.

Our Building and Facilities |
---|
Opened in 1986, the home provides residential and nursing care for 44 residents and includes a specialist 16 bedroom dementia houshold. Froxfield provides a home where older people can be helped to live as normally as possible and where the emphasis is on quality and enjoyment of life. The staff offer highly skilled nursing care and are proud to do so in an atmosphere where residents can feel they are still in charge of their own lives. Froxfield has been designed to provide a home-like atmosphere where individual needs can be met. With three separate households, there is a feeling of living in a small family unit while residents have access to all the home's facilities. Each of the bedrooms has a view of the gardens or surrounding fields and lanes. The entrance hall, dining room and welcoming sitting rooms are attractively furnished and provide comfortable areas where people can spend time together. Froxfield has close links with the local community and there is an active friends network. There are many regular visitors, and frequent events and outings are organised. Residents are encouraged to continue with previous leisure interests. The home's philosophy is that residents should be able to make decisions for themselves and choose how to spend their time. There are plenty of opportunities to be sociable but people's privacy is always respected. |
