The Old Vicarage - Care Home
Meet The Manager

Sue Wilson is Care Manager at The Old Vicarage.

Sue, our Care Manager, has a wealth of experience within the care sector. Originally, she trained as a Legal Secretary but decided that a career within care was most suited to her personality.

Over the years Sue has worked in many different care settings including a learning disability care home, as a Domiciliary Care Manager for a spinal care unit, a Residential Unit Manager, a Senior Domiciliary Care Coordinator, and overseeing the development of a new care home.

Sue Wilson

The Old Vicarage is a 19 room residential and dementia care home near Grange Over Sands, Cumbria. It is managed by Kamal Siddiqi who represents a second generation of the family to run it. Both Kamal's his grandmother and mother were residents at the care home.

Kamal has a simple philosophy of care, "If it isn't good enough for my relatives, it isn't good enough for anyone else's relatives."

The Old Vicarage operates a person-centred care model which means that care is based about supporting the residents; they get up when they like, eat what they want to and take part in activity programmes designed around their interests and hobbies.

Prior to someone coming to the home, Kamal's team go out and make a care assessment, gather as much information from them, their relatives and any necessary healthcare professionals and they learn as much as possible about their quality of life to ensure they can meet all their physical and emotional needs.

Safe Visiting Space
safe-tick We have a safe visiting space

The Old Vicarage operates using guidance from central & local government. We currently require all new staff to have had the vaccine and have regular lateral flow device tests. We were masks in the The Old Vicarage. Family members wear masks in communal areas but don't need to in private rooms.

Family members also need to do a lateral flow test before they visit or upon arrival. We sterilise rooms regularly using ozone filtration equipment to reduce viral bacteria.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.

Wireless Internet access (WiFi)

Yes, our care home has WiFi in all our resident’s rooms.

Mobile Phone Network Coverage (mobile “signal”)

The Care Organisation has not indicated availability

Telephone for external calling

Yes, our care home provides a telephone in all our resident’s rooms.

Social media provides an up to date window on the activities within a provider's setting.

Our Building and Facilities

The Old Vicarage is a family run care home situated in the village of Allithwaite, close to Grange over Sands, Cumbria. We have sixteen bedrooms, three of which are double and ideal for couples.

We specialise in care for the elderly and physically frail, including those with dementia.

The Old Vicarage is a vibrant, friendly place with lots going on and strong links with the local community. We produce a quarterly newsletter detailing all our activities.

The wellbeing and dignity of our residents is hugely important to us and therefore our staff are recruited for their values of kindness, compassion and patience.

Whilst most of our residents are with us full time, when we have vacancies, we are able to provide a respite service. We can also offer day care to local people.
