Robert Dura-May is General Manager at Sutton Valence Care Home.
I joined Barchester HealthCare, as I was looking to use my life skills to enhance both the life of residents and team members, I liked the values and description of Sutton Valance and Barchester as a care provider.
I really enjoy the daily challenges, team recruitment and always pushing and exceeding performance where I can. I also enjoy adding value, enhancing care and giving elder life purpose to enable them to engage in a fulfilled life.
I am passionate about delivering the levels and standards of care that I would expect for my own parents who are sadly no longer with us. If I had known about Barchester when my own parents required care, my family would have not experienced such pain and anxiety, this is why I chose Barchester to ensure that other families do not, where possible, have to endure what I had experienced in the past.
Set in the picturesque Kent countryside, surrounded by parks and greenery, Sutton Valence is a bright and spacious residence five miles from Maidstone town centre. All of our bedrooms are suitable for those requiring residential care and nursing care. We also offer respite care for those who require shorter stays.
When you arrive at Sutton Valence, we’ll sit down together to understand you, your life story and your needs. This includes any objectives you have, or specific health concerns. We’ll then create a personal care plan together with you, your relatives and our carers. If your care needs change while you’re with us, there is no need for you to relocate to a different room.
As well as our team of carers and nurses, GPs and other healthcare professionals visit the home regularly and are on call to provide services, should they be needed at any time. And everyone gets stuck in together – whether to serve breakfast or perform at our music nights.

Infection Control Training | Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections. | |
Virus Testing | We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting. |
Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications |
---|
Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant. Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed. |
