What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

We have a robust recruitment and selection process . This includes DBS and thorough background checks, to ensure the safety of the residents. All staff are trained how to identify and respond to safeguarding concerns. Both the Manager and Deputy have completed higher level safeguarding training and are confident and competent to react to any safeguarding concerns. Safeguarding concerns are referred to the local authority and CQC immediately to ensure residents are kept safe from potential harm. Management and care staff are aware of duty of candour, and are open and transparent and objective way, staff have a comprehensive awareness and understanding of abuse and know what to do if any concerns raised. If resident raise concern we offer appropriate support and information. Residents able to choose staff who will work with them by giving their opinions and feed back.

We have an excellent clinical governance and auditing system which requires detailed monthly audits to be completed. Monthly audits include medication, bedrails, pressure sores/wounds, infection control, catering -food allergies, mattress and pillow checks. There are also more detailed 6 monthly audits for example infection control and health & safety. Each audit has a SMART action plan which identifies shortfalls, improvements required and timescales for completion. All the information obtained has to be reported to senior management and also entered onto the portal. There are 6 monthly IMPACT audits which are carried out by quality assurance and are based on CQC requirements. There is a home development plan which is an ongoing action plan.

The management portal is used to gather all data regarding the home and identify trends.
Maintenance completes weekly and monthly Health and Safety checks which are documented and tracked in our management system to ensure the home environment remains safe and free of hazards. This includes weekly fire alarm tests and fire evacuation simulations as well as checking all the equipment used in the home. We also have annual independent fire risk assessments to ensure the environment remain safe.

Staffing levels are continually assessed to ensure that there are enough staff on duty at the right times. Management plan work schedules with consideration to skill to ensure that there is a good mixture of skills on duty.
Person centred plans are in place, with risk assessments for all identified needs, to ensure resident safety and incorporating positive risk taking.
Resident dependency assessments are reviewed monthly, which allows management to ensure the correct staffing levels are in place to meet the needs of the residents.
Detailed documented handovers take place at the change of each shift to ensure that staff are aware of resident’s needs. Any changes are noted and acted upon by updating care plans to reflect the change in need.
There is a nurse call system in place with pagers for care staff
