Abbeyfield Dulwich is situated in a quiet residential street in Herne Hill, South East London. Originally two adjoining Edwardian houses which have been converted into a large and comfortable sheltered living residence, we offer a safe and secure environment with a communal feel.

The house features 6 apartments and 1 studio flat, a shared dining room and a large garden. Abbeyfield Dulwich is open to elderly people who feel isolated or insecure and need a degree of support.

Some of our residents have lived in the area for many years and have family living nearby; others come from further afield and we offer 2 home cooked meals per day

Abbeyfield Dulwich is not a care home so nursing and similar care cannot be provided. We are not set up for couples, wheelchair users, people with serious memory problems or a diagnosis of dementia or Alzheimer's. There is usually a housekeeper on site but we cannot guarantee they will always be available outside their working hours.

There is no ramp access but we do have a stairlift for those first floor residents who find it difficult to use the stairs, but we have to be mindful of ease of exit in the case of fire. If you cannot exit the building safely then Abbeyfield Dulwich is not right for you.

All residents wear a personal safety pendant which is monitored and there is a monitored fire alarm.

We hold 6-monthly meetings with residents and their sponsors/relatives to ensure we are meeting residents' needs and are aware of their current medication and any worsening of their health or mobility.

All our residents are fairly active and we cannot offer accommodation to anyone with serious memory problems or serious mental health issues. If you are diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's while you are resident with us then you will need to seek alternative housing and we can offer advice here. Our notice period is 2 months. 

There are a few activities through the week, all are invited to come along and join. Volunteers are available to accompany residents on short trips or to the shops; jigsaw and games mornings and seasonal activities are also offered. There is a sunny terrace (with awning and outside furniture) leading onto a pleasant garden.

Abbeyfield Dulwich is well connected to the local community. Shops, independent cafes, pubs, medical general practitioners, dentists, opticians, bus and train services and other amenities are close by. Herne Hill train station has step free access and has links to the City and West End. The world-famous Dulwich Picture Gallery is a short walk away, as are the parks of Brockwell, Belair and Dulwich. Concerts, plays and artistic events are often held locally, and the Open Gardens Weekends, Dulwich Literary Festival and Herne Hill Music Festival are among the local yearly highlights. The house is located within a friendly community where the residents' association often organises street parties or picnics. 

Every summer we hold a garden party for residents and their families, and we invite a choir to come and sing Christmas Carols with us.

Abbeyfield Dulwich is open to elderly people who are relatively healthy and mobile but feel isolated or insecure and need a degree of support. Flats currently range in cost from £1,811.85 per month to around £2,400 per month.
