Our Building and Facilities

Allt Y Mynydd Nursing Home sits in 17 acres of private grounds in Brechfa Forest, with stunning views across the Duar Valley from almost every bedroom and communal area.

The home was a former sanitorium, originally opened by H.R.H Princess (Helena) Christian. Though every part of Allt Y Mynydd Nursing Home has been thoroughly modernised, you’ll still find nods to its character and history, dating back to 1908.

Today, the house is home to no more than 44 elderly men and women requiring nursing, residential and dementia care . The nursing wing, which was added to the original building, balances a home-from-home setting with specialised nursing care. Most of our staff speak Welsh fluently, and all are dementia and memory care trained. They’re here to support your loved ones with day-to-day living for both long-term and respite stays, as well as end-of-life care and support.

Activities Are So Important

Your loved one’s days should be filled with the things they enjoy the most. We’ll take the time and care to understand their hobbies, interests and beliefs before they join us at Allt Y Mynydd Nursing Home. Then, they can take part in our array of daily activities and social events to suit them in our own activities room or on a one-to-one basis.

Arts and crafts, pottery classes, baking, pet therapy, chair-based exercises, afternoon matinees, dancing and karaoke are just a few examples of the activities that regularly take place.

For those who love the outdoors, there is plenty of space for a gentle stroll or peaceful seating areas to enjoy the surrounding countryside. And our polytunnel greenhouse is ready for your loved one if they like to plant and potter.

Our residents can enjoy the personal services of our on-site hairdresser and visiting professional therapists who provide treatments such as physiotherapy and relaxing hand aromatherapy massages.

We also have our own private minibus for trips out to the local garden and shopping centres or even the local pub for a meal and small beverage.  Resident choices have also included trips to Abaraeron beach, The Royal Welsh Show and Ten Pin bowling at Xcel Bowl Carmarthen.

We believe in supporting our local community and often visit local schools for seasonal events or support the local fetes and carnivals.
