Amie Porter is Home Manager at Blaenos House Nursing Home.
I have worked in care for 17 years and can honestly say that I cannot think of a more rewarding career. I feel it is an honour to have met so many amazing individuals and to have given them the best possible care to ensure they have a happy and meaningful stay with us.
Within walking distance of the pretty historic market town of Llandovery, and on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, Blaenos House Nursing Home is one of the only homes in West Wales caring for those living with dementia.
The house is a former convent, and originally the Home of the Order of Carmelite Nuns. Today, you’ll find nods to the nuns’ traditions and history throughout the extensive gardens. The home has impressive views across the Welsh countryside and is close to local amenities, railway station and attractions in the surrounding area such as the Norman Llandovery Castle, Llandovery Museum & Visitor Gateway and the spectacular circular walk of Gwenffrwd-Dinas Nature Reserve
Blaenos House Nursing Home cares for a maximum of 38 residents living with dementia and/or requiring nursing care on a short or long-term basis. Most of our team members read and speak Welsh as their first language.
