Lesley Brock is Home Manager at Oakdale Care Home.
Lesley says: “Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. My focus is on making those moments matter for our residents.”
Lesley has spent her whole career in care, with her roles taking her from nurse training to owning her own business in domiciliary care. She joins Oakdale having managed other nursing homes, dementia-specific homes and has also owned and operated domiciliary care agencies throughout the south west of England.
She believes that being a strong team is important and that managers in care must be “everything and more” to their team, to residents and their families.
Oakdale is the latest addition to the Welford Healthcare family. This beautiful, purpose-built home offers residential, nursing and dementia care to 84 residents. Oakdale lies just a few minutes’ drive from Poole town centre and Canford Heath. It is situated close to local amenities and recreational outlets, and is easily accessible via the A35 and the A3049.
We understand that choosing a care home can be a difficult decision, but we are here to support you every step of the way. The team at Oakdale supports residents to continue to enjoy life, make new friends, continue with old hobbies and even try some new ones!
Whether you or a loved one require long term care or a respite stay, we offer care tailored to each person, delivered by dedicated healthcare professionals, recruited not only for their experience but also their compassionate nature.

Our Building and Facilities |
---|
Purpose-built, everything about Oakdale has been designed with care-giving in mind to ensure the absolute comfort and dignity for our residents; as well as efficient, modern facilities to enable our staff to provide the very best care. Our purpose at Oakdale is to enrich the lives of residents by offering a place of safety, care and companionship. No two people are the same and our distinctive and responsive individual care plans reflect the outstanding personalised care that Encore gives its residents. Encore provides exceptional expert care across all of our homes – in all five types of senior care needs; dementia, nursing, residential, respite and palliative care. Environments full of light and space are health-giving. As such, the home’s architecture has been designed to enhance residents’ wellbeing. Its spacious communal areas, large floor-to-ceiling windows and verandas ensure the home is flooded with natural light. Oakdale’s airy and bright ambience provides lots of areas for residents to relax or to take part in activities; whether they prefer to spend time with friends in the living rooms or find a cosy corner on their own for some quiet time. The shared areas are spacious with plenty of opportunity for residents to spend time on the patio balconies whilst enjoying some sunshine and birdsong. Residents can choose to sit outside and enjoy the woodland views, or alternatively, on the other side of the home, they can enjoy a spot of people-watching and take in the hustle and bustle outside. Each floor has its own dining room and kitchenette. The kitchen and dining areas are beautifully fitted. Families can catch up over a cup of tea in the kitchen areas, or in the private dining rooms. The home’s salon ensures residents feel like a million dollars. The living rooms include comfy chairs where residents can relax in company, or they can choose to sit in more snug areas of the home if residents would prefer some quiet time. The landscaped garden offers a beautiful and peaceful place to relax. The raised flower beds and vegetable patch are ideal for any green-fingered residents who would like to help to tend. |

Activities Are So Important |
---|
We have a dedicated Wellbeing Team to create fantastic and engaging weekly programmes of activities that are tailored to your interests and preferences. We arrange trips out locally as well as arranging a wide range of activities in the home, including entertainers that we invite into the home; such as singers, dancers, musicians and aerobic movement instructors. We strive to fulfill our strapline of “Making everyday extraordinary” for residents by listening to them and learning about them so that we can find thoughtful and imaginative ways to connect with every person. Whether you are an animal-lover, a keen gardener, a musician, or you enjoy arts and crafts. Maybe there is a past hobby you would like to do again, such as painting? Or perhaps you simply take pleasure in a nice cup of tea and a good chat… We are devoted to bringing a smile to your face every day, whatever it takes. Our doors are always open. At Encore homes we hold regular events that welcome the local community into the home, such as Open Days, charity events and themed celebrations. At Encore, we enjoy working with the community and for the community. We have great links with the local schools and groups, who often visit to entertain and engage with our residents. |
