Our retirement village in East Sussex brings together a variety of people from different vocations and locations, all united in their desire to enjoy their retirement years. We are more than a collection of secure and beautifully maintained rented apartments – we are a vibrant retirement community of people who all share a desire to live their retirement independently, and to enjoy a stress-free retirement lived on their own terms.

Our retirement village in Sussex is only a 15-minute walk to the town centre and promenade, but if you want a change from the charms of Eastbourne, there is plenty to tempt you within The Hawthorns retirement village itself. There are numerous groups to join, including bridge, whist, canasta, and a book club, as well as exercise classes, crafting in the activity room and even some table tennis on our popular table. You can always indulge your artistic flair through flower arranging or art classes, and our full-size snooker table is a magnet for our gentlemen snooker players!
There are frequent coffee mornings held in aid of local charities, race and casino nights, and concerts that range from ukulele groups, saxophonists, harpists or local choirs. Everyone is encouraged to involve themselves in as much or as little as they wish. Got an interest or hobby? Well, there will almost certainly be others who share that very same interest. Making acquaintances is easy. Most of our residents thrive in the companionable and supportive retirement community we cultivate, and newly arrived residents are quick to settle into home life.

Many residents enjoy dressing up for the special themed nights, which can take their inspiration from themes as varied as the Twenties and Thirties through to saints’ days or the culinary tour de force of say, Italy or India. At such events, our team of chefs lay on a spread and delight us, showing off their culinary flair with dishes from around the world.

Our retirement village in Sussex offers studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments within the main residence, each equipped with their own kitchenette and some with a balcony or patio. Adjacent to these apartments are The Gardens: a collection of two-bedroom maisonettes and bungalows, both with fully-fitted kitchens and private garden space. Residents of The Gardens also have full use of the facilities at The Hawthorns.
