Meet The Manager

Mevin Sohorye is General Manager at Upton Bay Care Home.

Hi, my name is Mevin, and I am the General Manager here at Upton Bay.

I hail from the beautiful island of Mauritius and began my career in care under the advice of my greatest influence – my mum. For this very reason it has always been a vocation to me.

I strive for excellence and will dedicate myself to ensure those who live here have the best quality of life possible. I am deeply passionate about bringing the absolute best out of everyone. Most of all, I lead with my heart.

I live locally with my beautiful and devoted wife, Rachel. I am also an avid Liverpool fan and will rarely miss a match! I love to cook and I am a trained chef. Also, music and dance are a huge vice for me.

Upton Bay Care Home in Hamworthy has been specifically designed to provide high-quality residential care to older people, in addition to care and support for individuals living with dementia.

Upton Bay is perfectly placed to easily access so many of Dorset’s beautiful attractions. Just a short bus ride away is Poole Quay with many shops, restaurants, boat trip opportunities and places to sit and while the time away yacht spotting. Sandbanks and Studland is easily accessible at a short drive away, whilst right on our doorstep there is access to shops, a few pubs and a lovely coastal park just down the road. Upton Bay really is placed to enjoy Dorset at its best.

The home has a dedicated area which we call our Memory Lane Community. Within our community, memory boxes with small reminders and items such as photographs, are used to help each person reminisce. Features such as adapted crockery and tableware, sensory gardens with low-risk walkways and activity kitchens also enable people to engage in life's everyday simple tasks and pleasures.

Our team of highly qualified and attentive staff will focus on the individual needs of each resident, creating a uniquely tailored care plan for each person. The dedication of our staff can be seen across the board in our catering, hospitality and the implementation of a varied activities programme.

Autumna has invited care providers to evidence the infection control measures they are carrying out, above and beyond those laid out by the government, in order to keep residents, staff and visitors safe.

What we're doing to keep residents & visitors safe

We are delighted that the majority of our residents, patients and staff have now been vaccinated. And we'll do everything we can to ensure that all new residents, patients and staff are vaccinated, where medically able to to, or are willing o be vaccinated before moving in or working in our homes and hospitals.

We also ensure that any new residents and patients coming into our homes and hospitals , whether from the local hospital or the community have been tested in advance and are negative for COVID-19.

We continue to have a robust supply chain of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) in place, and our staff are using this in accordance with the Government guidance. All of our staff, irrespective of their role will be wearing protective face masks at all times to ensure the safety of our residents and team.

We continue to implement our advanced cleaning practices, and have clear standards in the case of managing any confirmed or suspected cases.

All staff practise good hand and respiratory hygiene to prevent the spread of germs, and surfaces that are often touched are cleaned and disinfected frequently. We're proud to be the only care provider to win the RoSPA Health and Safety Award in both 2019 and 2020.

Infection Control Initiatives in place
safe-tick Infection Control Training Our staff are trained to use measures which prevent and control infections.
safe-tick Sterilisation & Disinfection Devices We are using sterilisation and/or disinfection devices within our care setting.
safe-tick Virus Testing We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting.
Safe Visiting Space
safe-tick We have a safe visiting space

The visiting suites are accessible internally by residents and externally by visitors, and are designed to resemble a living room - a warm and welcoming environment with comfortable furnishings.

The suite has an intercom system fitted so residents can clearly communicate, and engage in conversations, whilst being able to see their family and friends through  a Perspex glass divider fitted to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Connectivity for resident testing, monitoring & communications

Infection control and the safety of both residents and staff often requires quarantine measures and the isolation of care home residents. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant.
